WITH the jury still out on current halves pairing Anthony Milford and Kodi Nikorima, Brisbane have turned their attention to two other young playmakers.
According to Fox Sports’ chief NRL reporter James Hooper, the Broncos are keen on Parramatta’s Mitchell Moses as well as Sydney Roosters young gun Sean O’Sullivan.
Hooper said Moses was previously on the Broncos’ radar but Wayne Bennett was not sold on the former Tigers five-eighth.
“The name I keep hearing is Mitchell Moses,” Hooper told NRL 360.
“He was very close to joining the Brisbane Broncos when he was in dialogue with Parramatta previously.
“He ended up going to the Eels, but I think if Mitchell Moses was to go to Parramatta and ask for a release I’m not sure they’d stand in his way.
“Peter Nolan does the recruitment at the Broncos and previously he had Mitchell Moses on a list — he wanted to sign him, but Wayne torpedoed it. Wayne wasn’t a fan for whatever reason and decided that wasn’t what they needed.
“I think Peter Nolan is still pushing to get Mitchell Moses to the club. I’m not sure whether Wayne’s a fan at this point or not.”
The negotiations with O’Sullivan — who made his first-grade debut for the Roosters against the Titans two weeks ago — are believed to be much further along.
“It hasn’t been announced yet, but I’m very confident (they’ve signed him),” Hooper continued.
“Sean O’Sullivan’s sister is actually married to Matt Lodge.
“I think you’ll see him move up to Brisbane next season.
“I’m not saying he’s been signed as an NRL halfback — he’s only a teenager at this point, but clearly in his debut for the Roosters, the young bloke can play.”
And while the Broncos have recently spent big to retain young stars Jamayne Isaako, Payne Haas and Jaydn Su’a, they could lose plenty of experience with Corey Oates and Alex Glenn rumoured to be moving on.
“I’ve heard Corey Oates is on his way to North Queensland and perhaps Alex Glenn might be joining the Titans,” Ben Ikin said.
“It makes sense to me. You’re spending all this money on this young forward pack and there’s not a hell of a lot of room left.
“You’ve already got Jack Bird on $950,000, Anthony Milford on close to $1 million, Darius Boyd the captain’s got to be on huge money, James Roberts is an Origin centre, Jamayne Isaako’s just re-signed — something’s got to give.”
When asked about Oates, Hooper said: “I’ve heard whispers about Oates.
“He’s in a managerial dispute at the moment so he’s currently waiting to finish his existing arrangement with his existing manager, his father-in-law is Gene Miles so he’s been doing a lot of negotiating behind the scenes.
“It makes sense for the North Queensland Cowboys.
“There was big money being attached to Corey Oates at one point and I’m not sure the Cowboys would want to spend that much on a winger.
“The Alex Glenn talk, I have heard that as well.”

Please god, allah, buddah let this be true
Yeah, when was the last time we lost a key player near the peak of his prime to a rival club?
player swap?
If Bennett stays next year as coach of the Broncs, its hard to make a call, but perhaps a swap with Oates would be ok, would not be much in who pays what and the differences in the two players salary.
Big thing to me with Oates and he wants to play second row, being honest I think we have decent players in that position now, he would make a good centre though, and the club could put it to him that while they could not guarantee a second row spot, they could not rule it if he signs.
I think in watching his play at times he is a bit suspect in defence when on the wing, he could not carry that liability in the pig pit.
We are a joke of a club.
Shopping our halves around when in actual fact we should be shopping the dopey Kent coach around - only problem is no one in their right mind would take the bum not even at half price.
Parra, we love others rubbish.
I will toss a fifty in a go fund me page to get rid of him.....I bet there would be at least 20 000 other fans happy to do the same. Problem solution Bernie instant million buck to piss off the bush coach!
Rumour is his manager trying to get him to the broncos not the the club shopping him around .
