Brock miniseries

Did anyone else watch this miniseries about Peter Brock ? I stumbled across it last night by accident ( part 2 ) so I hit the app and watched Part 1 first and then watched part 2 straight after .Wow , what an eye opener . From a guy that grew up idolising the bloke man was Brocky a bit of a prick . Talk a bloke about dogging the boys . What a self centred peice of shite was Brocky . I'll admit I'm sure the intimate details would only be the side of the story told be his ex who he obviously did the dirty on , but I'm also sure much of the story was told by his pit crew , mechanics and mates who'd lost their missus to him .I really had mixed emotions about the series ( which was well produced and very enjoyable ) but being a bit young to realise why he'd moved to Ford , privateers etc through the 80s it was really interesting to see the issues behind the scenes . The guy was a brilliant race car driver and a loveable Aussie larrikin , but sheesh was he a self centred bastard behind the scenes . And whacko ! I didn't realise much of Brocks issues with HDT racing was because he believed crystals ( yeah like meditation crystals ) under the bonnet of his cars would make them go faster and he was pissed off the HDT wouldn't build crystals into the engine bay of the Brock Commodores they sold LOL !That said , as an 80s kid the memories Brocky has left us with watching his brilliance winning Bathurst , the Ford Seiras , the 80s Brocky car toys , is ingrained in my childhood memories and watching this series made me realise without all the issues in his life he probably could've won more if he's ego didn't get in the way .Anyone who missed it should really jump onto the Tenplay? Can't remember which app and give it a whirl .

  • I didn't watch it but I've always found most the blokes in Australian motor sport absolute bores, lownes is the biggest bore, all the drivers look like clean cut spoilt rich kids to me who's parents pumped heaps of cash into over the years.

Peter Brock if you listen to his Ex was a wife beater, he was a liar and unfaithful and dogged he's mates, and he was a cunt, im not too sure why he's so loved.

Ive got a theory, Aussie motor sport, especially V8 racing is filled with so many bores and personality less dopes that they needed a hero to grab onto and create some myth around, Brock was the only interesting one there who had a personality and some charm depending on who you talk to.

They needed a hero and they turned brock into that,

    • Brock was actually very very bloody good at driving , that's why he was idolised . He jumped into a privateers car one year which wouldn't have been anywhere near the quality of the rich dealer funded teams after having a falling out with Holden and won the bloody race on some second hand borrowed tyres . To put it in a familiar comparison he was like an Andrew Johns of racing . He also came from nowhere and took on and beat the best in the top of the game at the time . But yes he was cocky and not the typical rich bloke playing with dads money type so blokes could probably release to him . But he was a master of Bathurst , drove for Holden and he also made sweet cars that were tough , affordable and True blue Aussie . That's why blokes idolised him . It was the 80s , he represented what blokes wanted to be .

I knew he'd gone through a few Mrs's but I wasn't aware they were all his mates Mrs's , the wife beating well that's still a bit grey . Bev who he was with for almost 30 years has always maintained he never so much as lifted a finger , however the young attention seeking MIss Australia he was married to for about a year claimed he hit her around the time she'd found out he was leaving her for Bev . Even the show left it for you to decide and never actually showed any abuse . For mine , you'd think if the bloke bashed women then the woman he was with for almost 3 decades would've seen it at least once .

Worth a watch . My favourite part totally wrapped up an 80s family for me which was when Brocks father literally told him in full seriousness and anger that if he swapped to Ford ( early in his career ) he wasn't welcome to visit his house if he was driving it . Classic .
  • it's as boring as car racing!!!!
    • Did you watch it bud ? Cause I'm actually of the opinion that car racing in its current form is boring . But I enjoyed the show . I can't stand cricket but enjoyed that Howzat series . Each to their own I guess .
    • I watched the first night. couldn't really get into it. and it seemed to focus in on how much of a sleazebag he is.
      HowZat was good.
  • Isn't it funny how Aussies seem to gravitate towards the sleaziest blokes lol . Warnie , Brocky , guys like A Johns and many other footy players known to play up .
  • I saw the series and it was very poor. Looked like they made it at the local high school with $100. As for Brock - terrific driver..I didn't know him as a person and you can bet the media would have NFI.
    • Tough marker . Think you'll find it was his ex wife and a few scourned ex mates that provided the more negative events information not the media . I must say I wasn't aware you didn't know Brocky personally , thought for sure you and him were mates lol .
    • My point was if anyone is hoping to gain any insight into Peter Brock - a TV miniseries is the very last place to go as most of them are at least 50% fiction.
As for the series itself, in regards production standards it just looked really patched together, sort of like an Aussie 1970s movie, I wasn't referring to the content.
  • Didn't see it but I watched an interesting show on sbs about brick monastaries.
