Brett Kenny (Immortal-Yes/No)

Does anyone else besides me think Brett Kenny should have been listed amongst the Immortals of Rugby League even at the expense of Andrew Johns? As good as Johns was Im of the opinion that Brett Kenny was better.

  • Yes. ..

If Lewis wasn't a Queenslander Burt would have been an immortal ahead of him.

In my opinion greatest 5/8 to play the game.  Pretty good centre too...

  • Wally was only ever the Emperor of Lang Park. Kenny was and still is the king, Long live the king. Yes

  • Couldn't agree more MontoEel Lewis was a great captain but Brett Kenny was so superior to him in any position that people are kidding themselves if they think Lewis was a better five eigth Kenny used to run rings around Lewis and made him look like a draught horse Kenny is the most naturally gifted player I have ever seen

  • That's a yes from me. Brett was a gifted player and a gentleman too.

  • No brainer there, the man was so so gifted. Sadly Lewis got the accolades as his leadership quality was second to none and the Qld agenda made sure it would happen. But Bert, as a pure footballer with a football brain and extraordinary skills to compliment was peerless as a 5/8.

I reckon had he played in this era he would have made Lockyer and Slater look second rate as a fullback.

  • 100% bert should of at least been highly considered.probably a shandy ahead of the king. and at least on par with joey

p s  how f***kin slow is this site

  • Joey was the best player I've ever seen, Brett Kenny was great but I don't think he is an Immortal, he wasn't even the best player in his own team. Undoubtedly he will be a charter member of the soon to be established Rugby League Hall of Fame.

      • I agree BE and that's not the reason I don't have him as an Immortal, and I thought making Meninga an Immortal was purely political, that said I still don't think Bert was quite an Immortal

    • Brett, I can understand your high praises of Johns but when comapring him with Brett Kenny in my opinion Kenny wins hands down! Statistically Kenny was far superior and the biggest difference between Johns and Kenny was that Johns was a good goal kicker but in every other aspect I think Kenny was superior and shoukd have been an Immortal long before Johns.

      • That's absolute nonsense Monto. The only aspect of the game that Kenny was superior to Joey was his running game. When it came playmaking, game management, long & short kicking, passing, defence & footy IQ, Joey was vastly superior. Furthermore Joey carried many of those Newcastle teams he played in, often against some vastly superior opposition, whereas Bert played in a star studded team, in particular the backline, and in an era where the depth of competition was far weaker than it is today.

Bert was magnificent, a top 3 all time Eel, but Joey was the best and most influential player over the last 50 years. Period.
