Since the Eels allowed Reed Mahoney to join the Bulldogs at the beginning of 2023, No.9 has been a problem position for them. Josh Hodgson failed to set the world alight. Joey Lussick has been serviceable, as has Brendan Hands. Matt Arthur was deemed the future before he too was allowed to leave after his father was sacked by the club. Under Jason Ryles, it appears the club are endeavouring to use some of the cap space freed up by Clint Gutherson's move to the Dragons to finally fill Mahoney's void.
"The Eels have a real interest in Jayden Brailey," Read explained. "They're real keen on getting him to the club next year. They've got the cap room to make that happen. So I imagine that'll happen."
As for the club's pursuit of Josh Addo-Carr, Read described Parramatta as the "favourite" to secure the axed Dogs stars signature, though talks have stalled in recent days.
