Brendan Hands training well

From TCT reports Hands is training really well and is one of the fittest at the club. Now take it as you will about TCT whether you do not listen to a word they say or you take their training reports seriously or you listen to them alot. I myself find them hit or miss, the only knock on them i have is sometimes their actual talk of BA can be too much in terms of praise but they are good at reports from time to time.

Anyway Hands it seems could be a smokey for a bench spot, with (TCT thinking) Stone and him are vying for back-up hooker, hope not with Stone but Hands has always had raps just did not work out for some reason with Penrith. Bit like Sivo, was with Penrith for 3 years without debuting then getting a start with us, granted he has fallen off since his rookie year but is still a very capable first grader who would get a start in pretty much any of the other 15 teams in the comp (not all but most). Hands could be that diamond in the rough that fell through the cracks and can become that star, we've seen it alot. Damien Cook was one who could not find his footing with St. George Illawarra and Canterbury and now is a constant origin player with South Sydney. James Maloney did not debut til 23 at Melbourne then went to the Warriors for a start and the rest is history. Hands i believe is 22 this year, so he is not overly young but no where near old either, he is at the right stage of his body development. Could he be a 2023 option? well i do not see why not though of course he will need to earn that first before it is even considered.

Hands impressing can lead it to being even more promising having someone like Hodgson come to the club. Hodgson has 2 years moves on and Hands will be prime and ready to take over, having him as that 14 moving forward. Only issue is what type of contract will he be on and will he stick around for 2 years as a 14, unless we sign him til 2025 but who knows we could have an exciting player to mull over in NSW cup.

On a side note, there has been no mention what so ever on Rein, Scott i understand due to his case but Rein has not been seen or sighted or even announced, with majority of the squad back at training you would think Rein would be there. Even if he is coming off surgery or injury he would be there rehabing so fascinating to see if he is back after Christmas.

Though, him not there only benefits Hands even more for a 14 spot, maybe even if Mahoney goes down during 2022 Hands can step in and be the man moving forward, though one thing is for sure if Hands is to be our starter at hooker in 2023, it will need to be early to mid 2022 he gets that spot as i believe Hodgson or another hooker will sign reletively early.

  • Rein is there he has been in the training photos

    • Yeah saw just then on instagram he has moved to Sydney.

  • Rein has signed. Probably not announced given all the Mahoney noise etc. Likely announce soon.

    • Looking forward to seeing us with a steady experienced Hooker. Hope we kick off the season with Rein.

  • Something tells me we won't be seeing Stone at Hooker in 2022. Nor should we , that was a pathetic display from a guy that trains full time catching and passing a football.

    • Stone is a player that would work well on the bench as a 14 if you have an 80 min hooker, teams are scared not having a replacement at hooker during a game and for good reason, if you do not have someone to distribute from dummy half during a game your attack colapses completely. Though clubs prefer to have a player that can be competent at hooker but can play other roles if not needed at hooker. That is Stone, will play at lock or second-row during a normal game but can fill in for 20-30mins at hooker if asked and our attack drops a little bit.

  • Apparently has great hands!!!!

    • Yep, he has been Hands On and training!

  • LOL! I never dreamed we would have a Mr Hands at the club.

Anybody who doesnt know who Mr Hands is, i suggest you do a google .

    Could it be a relation?

Listening to Journos pod, apparently Lomax is still mulling over whether to stay or leave for R 360. Eels apparently are not fazed if he decides to leave as it opens up cap space for other signings. Have to wait and see what happens
