Maybe! Its rare to get bail after sentencing though. He was sentenced by the District court, so to appeal he has to make application to the Court of Criminal Appeals, as an indictable appeal.This is a lengthy process.
The appeal would have already been lodged I suspect. He is unlikely to be bailed once sentenced as Blue Eel suggests.
I did expect him to get jail time but that's a fair whack of a sentence!
I agree the sentence did appear to be heavy handed. Could that assist him in an appeal?
The minimum is only 3 years. Even for non violent SA that seems quite gentle I would've thought.
