Brandon Smith - “rumor only”

looks like the  Roosters are happy for cheese to leave the club this year. Is this why the Brailey deal has gone cold??? Anyone heard anything? Im assuming there is a connection with JR and cheese from storm days. I would definately be a fan of this signing...

  • Fox sports article

It was around this time three years ago that Brandon Smith was the hottest signature in the game with several clubs rolling out the red carpet in a bid to sign him for 2023 and beyond.

The Roosters ultimately won the race and locked the star hooker in on a three-year deal, hoping that he’d be the final piece to their premiership puzzle.

Now he’s back in the transfer news cycle with his Roosters deal due to expire at the end of next season.

It’s been rumoured that the Roosters will not offer him a deal beyond 2025 and now things are heating up even more with The Sydney Morning Heraldreporting the club is willing to release him immediately.

Smith is currently rehabbing his knee after tearing his ACL and isn’t due back on the field until the second half of next season.

According to the Herald, the Roosters are prepared to releasing him to a rival club before he returns from injury.

The news comes just over a week after Smith said on a podcast that he’d “ideally like to stay at the Roosters” beyond 2025.

  • Name a player that has improved after leaving the storm? I'll say Tino, other than that I can't think of anyone. I'd be very hesitant signing cheese, there's got to be a good reason both the storm and chooks were happy to part company with him.

    • Cronk went ok, Nico Hynes also kicked on to another level,  a few others you could say did , but yeah , certainly few and far between.

      • I guess what I'm saying is the Storm know when to buy and sell, they don't get it wrong often. So I'd be cautious what you're getting from them.

        • Yup, agree.  They rarely lose players they'd like to keep.  Although they also did turn Brett Finch into a ice head pe**o.

        • I hear ya AM but how do you feel about players they try and keep but get out bidded for?

          • Do you mean players who stay at the Storm for less than what they could have got elsewhere eg. Munster? That says they've got their "culture" sorted because money isn't the predominant factor in a player wanting to be at their club. I think Ryles is in the early stages of getting all that stuff sorted for us but it's going to take time.

            • The reality is that the Storm take little notice of the cap, that is well known, the idea of them (players) not leaving for money is bullshit. They have as their head honcho one of the biggest bookmakers in the country, a legend in his own right who is the son of the former great illegal SP Booker..... The Trip Family don't lose players they want to keep and yes money is the salient aspect. Christ they robbed us of the premiership in 2009 with the most blatant ramping of the system in history.

Cheese was an iceman, so is Munster for someone to  think they have a fab culture is naivety is in the extreme.

Why do people want to downgrade our culture on here and hold cultures like Storm and Roosters as examples to follow.I will tell you why, they think we should/have  be the honest cleanskins and that the honest clubs always win! Dumbasses.

Ryles has first hand experience at these clubs and understands how to play the game, that's why we have players like JAC and hopefully Tyrell May......he is obviously a realest.

BTW do you think Bellamey stays there for the love, the key to Storms success is Trip and.Ponnisi, they are very good managers, just dont think they are cleanskins because they are not!

            • Storm don't keep all the players they want to keep. They wanted to hold onto Brandon but Chooks got him with $$$.

I think we could make it work for the right price.

              • I thought Harry Grant was the player they wanted to hold on to, I think they made the right call.
