we have no influence whatso ever at NRL headquarters.
we have no media personality benefactor to use media pressure.
Quite frankly we do not play that side of the game "behind the scenes influence or pressure" at all, we still think to win a comp, its played 100% on a square field.
Wikipedia says Marata is from the Cook Islands. Would he have played for the Māori all stars?
You'd imagine if he was eligible he'd have played by now, especially considering Wiremu Greig was called up on very late notice last year and Marata wasn't.
It also may depend on whether or not he sees himself as Aotearoa Māori. There are Māori in the Cook Islands, Alex Glenn is another and he never played for the All Stars. The Māori side is known officially as the New Zealand or Aotearoa Māori so he may not even be eligible.
All he has to do is tell them he is Maori. Are they going to actually check? Anyone could do that.
The weak NRL should have said no, that would a put a stop to all the controversy that this can of worm going to cause. This mob just keeps adding crap to their own plate, keep it simple & only good can come of it. I don't blame any player sticking it to the NRL.
