Brad Arthur press conference

Another embarassing defeat.

I thought Brad Arthur's comments in the after match press conference revealed a lot about what is going on at the Eels.
Firstly he was clearly frustrated and there were indications that he was "Out of answers"

The following comment was particularly telling. Arthur was talking about the players making "soft choices,"
to which he then added "The players have to fix it. We can only talk about it so many times.
The players have to fix it don't they."

The comment clearly suggests that Arthur was not just referring to the players attitude in this particular match, it indicates
that he has noticed this "attitude" over a significant period of time.

The comment also indicates that he has spoken to the players about this a number of times. The frustation in Arthur's  voice indicates that whatever way he has attempted
to address this has not worked. It has not made a consistent impact among the greater part of the playing group. This seems to indicate that there are
some players who aren't happy with the way Arthur has gone about this.

The sub text of what Arthur is saying is that there are a number of disgruntled players among the playing group.
A few disgruntled players can affect the whole team dynamic as everyone knows.

The best "man manager" coaches know how to address this.

It would seem, based on these comments that Arthur cannot be placed in that
category.

    • Hahaha, Brian Smith was useless as well. Plus at the time had a much bigger junior region. Brian Smith had some of the best rosters to work with and couldn't get it done either.

      • Brian Smith was leaps and bounds better than BA. Two minor premierships and a GF. Smith had the ability to get his teams up at least.

        • Never in a grand final he got the team up, a lot of finals and big games as well. Expect them to be a top 4 team at start of season and than they don't make the 8. They are both the same and sadly, both gave us hope but both never delivered.

          • Still got there 4 times. Smith is still a better coach than BA.

            • Both shit but, can we agree on that LB

              • Before you bag out Brian Smith go back and have a look at the Grand Finals that he lost. Have a look at the opposing teams and you will see how much better the cattle of the opposition was. It was actually remarkable that he got these teams to the GF. It was like men playing boys. The 2 QLD teams that played St George where incredible as was the Newcastle side that beat Parramatta in 2001. Don't just respond back go to Wiki and look at the teams.

                • Hahaha, speech we had a killer side. Their forward pack wasn't half as good as ours. One player beat 17. I would take that forward pack any day of the week. Same with the backline, they were all reliable. Probably the only one I would of changed was moodie, even though he was still good. P.S we actually had more rep players than them.

                  • We had killer sides because Smith made them killer sides. The side we had in 2001 wasnt just some bought lineup. They had absaloutey no right going into the GF as favourites if you look at the lineup Newcastle had.  As Speech says , go and look at their side , it was one of the best sides to play NRL , but because we'd had such a stellar year people forget that our team list was far far inferior to theirs.

But there certainly were unforgivable games like Canterbury 98 and Cowboys 05 to name just two.

                • Also Burt to this day shocks me he never got a rep call up.

                • True that Speech .... in 2001 I thought we were the youngest side on average
