Interesting if true. Does this put him in the frame for that number 5 jersey for 3 weeks?
💯
I doubt. Would be a very bold move
Definitely true
Here is the weird thing, you ask me yesterday i say no way. For some reason, i am growing more and more convinced BA will do that. Now i think he would go with Simonsson if i had to put money on it but BA and the staff are smitten with Talagi, he is a very talented kid.
Only thing is, gone of the days where you can just throw anyone on the Wing, it is a niche position but requires different set of skills. Talagi is fine defensively and has some strength about him in running. But how is he on the sideline and under the high ball with pressure from massive Wingers. Also, BA is also very fond of Harper, was in 2023 also trying to get him over. So i think he could lean towards having best of both worlds of him and Simonsson in same team.
Look through who he is marking for next few weeks and it is not too bad. Wilson/Kiraz Round 1. To'o Round 2. Saab Round 3. DIfferent types of Wingers, it will test him. But also, i am a big believer playing FG in general helps development wherever you play. Talagi looks to be a quick learner.
Would i be surprised if Talagi is named in the 2 jersey? I would not to be fair, wouldn't put monet on it but wouldn't be surprised. It is down to three options, Simonsson (Harper at Centre), Dunster, Talagi. Zero Tackle said Asi is being considered, no way they would put him on the Wing.
Meh. I think way too much is made of this idea that high quality footballers can only play certain positions. If this was the case why, at the very highest level of our game, in both State of Origin and in international footballers are coaches so willing to throw players into positions they don't play on a week-in, week-out basis.
All of these high-level kids, barely have a day when they're not playing football - and they play in all sorts of teams, and they get thrown from position-to-position. Talagi is a footballer with a skillset that could applied to pretty much any position in the backline, he will do absolutely fine on the wing.
I don't see why we can't use Jarryd Hayne as a reference point here. He obviously played mostly fullback, a bit of centre, but he came into grade as a winger, and was arguably one of the greatest wing performers for NSW in Origin history. Krisnan Inu likewise.
I say all this while holding the position that Bailey Simmonson is a wreck on the wing, while I find him quite a passable centre, but I think more holds true to the fact that if I'm picking for a wing spot, I'll take an average specialist winger over an average specialist centre every day, but I'll also take an outstanding centre over an average winger every day, as is generally the mentality that rep selectors take
Hayne was also bigger and faster than Talagi. Added Hayne came through as a Fullback in grade, Talagi primarily was a 6, his skills at this stage is suited to being a 6 with aspects of a Centre. Not every back can play Wing.
However, i do say that with the thought that he could be ok if given the chance, it is just a concern. But if BA puts him there, which i think is slim but possible, i cannot wait to see him go.
Oh you are back to this now Grunta, bored i see.

Well aren't we all blessed
Would you go with Penisini and Harper in centres and Talagi on wing OR Penisini and Harper in centres and Simmonson on the wing OR Simmonson and Penisini in centres and Talagi on wing
