BEVAN FRENCH vs BRONCOS

Watched this young guy playing fullback in under 20s at Suncorp last night and he is the real deal.Very quick, defends really well and seems safe under the high ball. He pulled off a couple of try saving tackles and scored a couple of great tries. There is definitly something special about him. Considering the lack of real pace in our first grade backline I would be very tempted to try him at fullback even at his young age.We need some genuine pace and this guy is fast. I know he is still very young but if you are good enough it would be worth the effort to give him a go. Even blood him on the wing for a few games to settle him into first grade but this guy will be a very good footballer and we desperatly need real speed.

  • Sat with them last night and had a dig at them about not knowing how to defend. 50 odd points let in wtf?

I was shocked at how small they are. I realise they are less than 20 yrs of age but they are kids.

I reckon most are a long way off NRL standard and heaps smaller than Folau.

  • French has afterburners! So much pace! Will be a future star forsure. Some of the younger Broncos were filling out.
    • He is definitely a keeper. Hope we do.

  • hi Bug, I totally see your point regarding age being a concern but I think this guy could be special and we desperatly need pace.Main problem may be his size atm but boy he exited me and was the highlight of the trip to suncorp to be able to watch him play

  • French turns 19 this year. He's old enough, he's just not big enough.
By the way, Marmin Barba was an absolute freak in under 20s as well.
    • He's listed at 181cm and 89cm. That's bigger than Slater as an example.

I don't think Marmin impressed to the level that French has (and he is smaller). As an aside, though, Marmin is tearing up for the Ipswitch Jets. He scored 22 tries last year and has four from four games this year. He's not done as an NRL prospect yet. He's still got that blistering pace.

  • Inglis debuted at 18. I've seen this kid a few times and looks good in attack and defense.
  • You had me at "safe under the high ball"
    Get him in
    • You had me at someone who's not Hoppa!

  • I don't think we'll invest big dollars in any marquee fullback because I think there is a feel within the club that French will be the long-term fullback. Really, it's just a matter of when. I think he's probably already definitely being considered as a possible first grade option for next year. And if we get anymore injuries at the back, well, maybe...

"Some players need to get sacked from a club and risk losing it all before they really knuckle down and put in the work.  Why did he get sacked, was it lack of discipline for footy and training or off field issues?"
