Bevan French: the RTS experiment

A lot of people on here, including myself, have high hopes for young Bevan. It's been debated as to wether or not he is ready for FG. It got me thinking, should we try and replicate what the chooks did with RTS?Roger came into first grade at a very young age and served his apprenticeship on the wing, whilst learning from Minichello. RTS was never the biggest player, but rather used his electric footwork and speed to earn a living in the NRL.The roosters always had plans to turn him into a fullback longterm (even though he won't actually be at the roosters long term LOL) however made him bide his time on the wing whilst learning what it takes to play NRL.Now I understand that we dont have a FB of Mini's caliber that could serve as a mentor to Bevan. This is where Mick Gordon would be ideal. Otherwise bring in someone like Luke Burt that could play that role to help him make the step up into first grade.I also understand that Bevan may never be as good as RTS. However I believe it is something we should seriously consider. There is only two ways it can go.. If Bevan plays and it's evident that he isn't quite ready for FG, then send him back the 20's or preferably Wenty. On the positive side though, it could work wonders and may turn out to be the best for both the club and for Bevan.RTS has turned out to be one of the finest and most explosive fullbacks in the game. Who's to say this can't happen with Bevan French? What does everyone think. Would you prefer to see him in reserved grade for a couple of seasons, or playing on the wing in FG?Just a thought. There is no right or wrong answer. Just interested to hear people's opinions.

  • Hahah this from Horo! Gold.
  • Blood him slowly in FG. Wing or bench utility.

You can't acquire experience until you do.

Not sure how it affects salary cap issues though ?
    • Yeah good point. He isn't part of our top 25. So he'd be on 2nd tier salary. No idea how all that shit works. It's to confusing.. But it's a thought.
  • No please enlighten me.

    • Il wondering the same thing steve. It was a genuine idea. And if salary cap matches up, it could be a possibility. People seem to think it's a joke though lol.
