Agree with all this. He played 7.5/10 tonight. Posted this comment a few hrs ago in that other Move French to Wing thread: "Bevan's positional play is miles in front of Hoffman. He saves us lots of points and saves us from facing too many of those dreaded goal line drop outs - he gets the ball back for us quite often. His defence is good for a small fella. It's what often happens in front of him with our forwards that leaves him vulnerable dealing with bigger blokes. And Bevan's attack and ball playing at the line is much better than Hoffman's too. He will only get better and better. ".
Can't defend at the level he needs to at his current weight.
Good in attack and under bombs.
There is no need to move french anywhere. For someone who is as small and light as he is, he is doing a fantastic job. Obviously there were some mistakes in his game tonight like the first try but he's only 21 and 8 or so games into such a big role. He will continue to improve, we cant play it safe with french if hes truly ready he should be thrown into the deep end. So far hes coping pretty well.
He does need to get more involved in attack however, i do think he understimates just how good he is, but obviously that explosiveness will come with time we need to be patient
Yep, spot on analysis.
It would be preferable to have a fullback who didn't need to rely on his winger every time he's running the ball back after an opposition clearing kick, or having to defend on the wing at times during the game.
Fullback is a good mix between the halves and the outside backs - they get more ball than the outside backs but get more space than the halves. It is the right position for French. We also don't want him defending up in the line.
Needs to share with Hoffman the fullback position. Can't tackle. What a shocking attempt on Cotric,
Citric pushed off Kaysa with ease and was in the clear. It's not hard for a good back to step a fullback and make them look foolish when he can step either side.
That try should have been stopped by Kaysa and what didn't help was Scott getting attention for something from the tackle before.
French is fine, we have bigger problems.
