Best bets

Don't agree with gambling when the odds are I will lose if I play often enoughBut sometimes there are opportunities where the odds are for the punter to winInterested if it is possible to reliably and objectively winAnyone here able maintain profit and do it as an emotion-free business and not entertainment/ addiction etcI made a few grand last year but most was on bonus betsFor example this week Warriors with Foran and Cowboys with Toumalolo (despite no JT or Granville) look good with a 18.5 start and still paying $1.30-$1.33But I don't have a good record on non Parra games. If I just bet when I am confident that Parra will win (maybe with a start) then I do much better.

  • Gambling is a mugs game! End of story.
  • Why are we favourites at ANZ this Monday. It's a mutual ground and we are relatively equal on paper and they are coming off a win. I'd get on the tigers if I was gambler.
    • Yes but they are not paying enough for it to be a good opportunity imo
However our attack has been poor and without French I can't see a lot of points coming our way
So Tigers with a start could be good

    • Ha ha- well played
  • Gambling is mostly a mugs game
They try to suck you in and open up.

But there are opportunities if you are careful, only bet when it is in your favour and don't get sucked in

It is dangerous because it is easy to start betting when you shouldn't

For example I do not buy lottery tickets or play pokies because I know the odds are against me

But can you pick and choose sports betting so the odds are in your favour

Obviously if your Eddie Hayson you can - but can you do it with less inside info

    • You have to know when to fold
The good "gamblers" keep their powder dry until the opportunity arises
    • Great record though- especially if not all very short odds

    • I usually go for bigger starts and when defence is good and attack poor
Don't often get good opportunities with good odds but occasionally come up

But can't argue with your track record - much better than mine this year

    • Some people seem to think it as a test of courage to take the risk
      That is a bad choice

I like to look at it as ability to make decisions
Life and playing football you need to make decisions, manage risks. There are times to play safe and there are times to take an opportunity- when all the odds are stacked in your favour and you pick your fight when everything is to your advantage.

"But that's the thing. We currently don't have JDB for next year. Barnett would effectively be taking his spot. If JDB plays out of his skin we do keep him and that's a good thing. If he is average then we just cut our losses and move on. I don't…"

"JDB is worlds away from Barnett. Barnett is a NSW starter and Australian level prop.
Happy to see Junior extend but would be on a cut price deal IMO"
