Jason Newsted - Total metal head. Loves his music. Pity how James treated him. I do like Rob, but Jason is my fave Metallica bassist, even like him better then Cliff. (Awaits Hatred)......
I'm not sure if was Jason's playing style or if it was the way James & Lars ran the band in terms of what Jason had to play but his bassline's tended to mimick whatever James was playing, especially on "...And Justice For All" whereas Cliff Burton and Rob to a degree had/have free reign where you can hear the individual basslines separate to the guitar parts in a lot of Metallica's songs they played on. Think this was alluded to in "Some Kind of Monster" doco where James & Lars said they were still struggling with Cliff's death and that they didn't allow Jason to become a fully fledged member of Metallica which is just "one of the reasons" Jason left Metallica.
Nah... all 3 are / were great - very different styles but all with something so cool. Rob was great to watch up close on the DM tour.
Side note - you given Jason's album a listen - Heavy Metal Music - I've tried a few times and I just can't like it. Really want to but it's just hard - he needs to just play, not sing.
Can't argue with that logic, I can barely play a 4 String Bass let alone a 6 String Guitar and at least, I can play a real instrument whereas you'd suck even playing a Triangle or Tambourine haha :P
"Against the Dragons I'm taking my physical line up.
Make no mistake this is a trap game for us if we get cute and don't physically matchup with the Dragons this is a loseable game.
We need to establish go foward and as above we need to be physically…"

Loved Cliff - the Pulling Teeth solos were unreal. Steve Harris also - up the Irons!
Being a Bass Player myself, I have a few different influences that I'll do my best to narrow down:
JAMES JAMERSON (Funk Brothers/Motown)
MARK KING (Level 42)
STU HAMM (Sessionist)
FLEA (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
STUART ZENDER (Jamiroquai)
CHARLIE MINGUS (Jazz Great)
VICTOR WOOTEN (Bass Legend)
BOOTSY COLLINS (Parliament/Funkadelic)
STEVE HARRIS (Iron Maiden)
ABE LABORIEL SNR (Tower of Power)
CLIFF BURTON (Metallica)
