HERE’S been a lot of noise made over Jarryd Hayne linking again with Parramatta, possibly in time to spearhead the most unlikely of finals charges.

But Dragons veteran Benji Marshall has raised a very valid point that could prove a major stumbling block to Hayne being sighted again in the blue and gold in 2016.

The loophole that is believed to allow Hayne to rejoin Parramatta this season is that as he is not a currently registered NRL player, Hayne is not bound by the game’s June 30 deadline.

It’s been reported that if Kieran Foran is granted the release he has requested from the club, it would free up an estimated $250,000, which would cover three months of Hayne’s market value on the books.

But joining the NRL360 panel along with Cronulla’s Michael Ennis, Marshall questioned how any of Foran’s 2016 salary — in excess of $1 million a year — could be taken off the Eels cap given the star halfback has already been ruled out with a shoulder injury.

“I don’t think they could fit them under the cap in their current situation,” Marshall said.

“Kieran Foran was out for the season already through injury. So how could they wipe him off the cap this year?

“He’s already going to be out. If he’s wiped off the cap next year and so on, fair enough.”

“But for the rest of this year he wasn’t going to be playing anyway. So surely he couldn’t be taking a spot anyway.”

Ennis voiced similar concerns around Hayne being spirited back into the basket case club, particularly given allegations of cash payments to players and astounding salary cap breaches continue to be revealed in the media.

“I’d love to see him back in the game, but I don’t think it can be feasible this year,” Ennis said.

“Especially at Parramatta. I don’t think it’s the right time.”

  • I think someone is afraid that Parra will kip them of their current 8th place.

  • I didn't know that Benji was our Financial spokesman! Interesting move Parra!
  • Maybe we'll sign him on a backended $50k contract like Gasnier was when he came back late to help Dragons win a premiership.

Oh wait, we're Parra and they had Bennett so the same rules dont apply do they...

    • Exactly. Plus, even if Foran's remaining 2016 contract is not wiped off, I thought the contracts extend to February? As such, would we have to carry any salary beyond his injury recovery point, given that beyond the injury recovery he is not fulfilling his duties? So we may only need that small amount plus back-ended?
  • I understand the point of view that benji raises but as Kieron's request for an immediate release is due to mental health issues and Kieron will not be fulfilling his duties at parramatta I don't think his injury should come into the equation. If he wasn't injured and made the same request for the same reasons this wouldn't be an issue. I think we fluked some good luck in a bad situation
  • Wonder who wrote this article....

ummmmmm cause he wants an immediate release that how you idiotttttsss

    • 100%!!!!
    • lol - couldn't have said it better myself Barto :)

It makes you wonder how some of these numb skulls get a gig on these shows.

Whenever I see Ennis' ridiculous head with the teenager line cut thru his hair (isn't he 35 or something?) all I can think of is how he did that lame ass selfie shite after scoring a try a couple of weeks ago. That was friggin' brutal, worse than spirit fingers.

Benji's got a shitty on because everyone is talking about JH coming back and making a big deal of it - when poor old Benj came back no one gave a shite - and thus he ended up at the lowly Dragons :)
