Ben Rogers head of recruitment

So it was mentioned last night that Ben Rogers was the head of recruitment at the club. Now like me, many of you were saying who the hell is that, first thing comes to mind was the former Newcastle and Souths five-eighth who was sacked for discplinary reasons. However it is not him, instead he comes from South Sydney, where in 2019 he won a Jersey Flegg title as head coach, moving into head coach of NSW cup in 2020, before moving into this role for 2021.

So Ky Rodwell and Kurt Dillon were players that were brought with him from Souths (not great i know) but was here for Papali'i, Opacic, Roache, Hipgrave, Cartwright and Oldfield signings. So Kent said not alot of intellect at Parramatta, not sure about you and what Kent believes is good enough intellect, but i believe being with Souths for years including winning a jersey flegg competition and worked with NSW cup for a pre-season before COVID hit under Wayne Bennett is not at least some intellect than im not sure what is considered intellect.

He is someone i would even look at for assistant next year if we move on from Murphy, Kidwell or Carr.

  • Never heard of him. Some advice Ben, if you are reading this. We NEED A STRIKE CENTRE and pace in the backline

  • LB, the only way we will get new assistants is if BA is shown the door. Can't see that happening unfortunately. I think we are in for another year of pain next year.

  • Most of what Kent says is a load of BS, some if it has a bit of truth to it. In this case, I would be pretty confident that the club has filled the recruitment team with people who have an idea of what they are doing. Certainly the team is not quite where it needs to be, but surely the club knows this already, and would be on the lookout for players to fill those gaps. People say we are at our Premiership window, but I don't believe this is the case. That window would only open once we fill some critical gaps in the team, and it is the recruitment team that needs to be on the ball here.

    • Yeah, when Kent said they have no idea i was think they hired a business man or ex footy player O'Neill knew and this is his first job off the field. This bloke is a coach and a decent one of that in lower grades, other clubs dont have decent coaches in recruitment because they're in assistant roles, now can be bad that he isn't a coach elsewhere and recrutiment for us, or could be our gain. But i will say at the very least he has an idea.

      • LB, O'Neil was in charge at Wests prior to getting the bullet.

As for the other names in the lead in, Carr has been doing a pretty fair job with the CC players, even though there has not been a huge comp this year, same as last year and don't know if Carr with with the comp then as it too was dumped early.

Kidwell I don't believe has really warranted his job, and the renaming of his position to forwards coach has not helped them much either. Murf has been BA's primary offsider for a while now, I understand he's well respected by the players.

        • I know O'Neill was at Wests, not sure what you are referring to?

          • Your post to Longfin

        • What does that mean "well respected" Colin? Is it a reflection of his technical knowledge of the game? or maybe that he is well liked as one of the boys? I can tell you this, he has been there with BA since they came to Parra together 8 years ago. At that time Murf was BA's assistant coach. Then he progressed to "attacking coach" when BA brought Kidwell as defensive coach. He certainly doesn't do a lot of either now that Ryan Carr is there to give his tuppence worth. He appears to have been relegated to onfield message boy on game day.

          • My understanding is the Carr has been working with the CC players, which includes last years players in the lower grade, with both comps bein shorted by the NRL/ARL, he's likely being used with the lower graded players up in the bubble.

The aspect of well respected, simply means he is well respected in the work he does with players and other people who come in contact with him...  Last I heard of assistant coach positions was Kidwells original tag as defense coach has changed to Forwards coach, someone else has the backs, and don't know who.
