Ben Hunt anyone

What does everyone think about Ben Hunt on a 2 year deal to the Eels from 2024

Apparently offered 700k by Saints for 2 years.

Would he be worth 850k for 2 years or 800k for 2 years and a 3rd in our favour

Can play 9 if we don't take up Hodgsons second year due to form or injury and stops our halves from holding us to ransom in negotiations.

Gives JA extra time to develop as a half and could be a great mentor.

He is a big chance of winning the Dally M in a team in the bottom 8.

He is a big game player especially in origin and is relatively injury free.

May also be that "X" factor player we have been crying out for.

I'm not set one way or the other but just asking thoughts and why/why not

  • Outside the box thinking Jason. I wouldn't be against signing Hunt to play hooker in 2024. Timing wise might be difficult as we just don't know what we're going to get with Hodgson. And it might take some time to find out  anyway.

Good insurance policy for Moses as well if he leaves (but I don't think he will).

    • Thanks Jim

I don't think Moses will leave either but what will we have to pay to keep him.

A lot can happen in the next 3 years and a lot of half-backs could come on the market as well as a player out of the blue.

There could be a 16 or 17 year old running around now that could be the next Andrew Johns

  • Our current halves are better and I wouldn't pay him 800k+ to play hooker.

We made the mistake of signing Hodgson and we are stuck with him. He will be with us until MA is fast tracked to 1st grade like his brother.

    • He goes pretty well at hooker in SOS.

I see him as a Chad Townsend player that may bring the best out of the players around him.

  • No. Not unless he agreed to play hooker and we punt Hodgson.

    • The thing about Hunt is that he can play 6, 7 or 9 so we have quality cover in the halves or hooker for injuries as well as a mentor role for our spine (the Arthur's Matt and Jacob) as well as Hand and anyone in Jersey Flegg coming through.

I actually see him as a potential assistant coach or lower grade coach after he finishes playing and we could possibly get first shot at him as he would already be in our system

  • I'm sorry I don't like it

    • Any reason Shawn or is it just the vibe

      • Don't worry, Shawn doesn't like many things in life, including blogs!

        • Like getting blood from a stone from Shawn
