  • North Queensland have terminated the contract of Ben Barba due to a "significant breach of the terms of his contract".

Cowboys chairman Laurence Lancini said: "When a player joins the North Queensland Cowboys he agrees to abide by the terms of the contract.

"After an internal investigation, it has been determined that this player has acted in contradiction to both the terms and the spirit of that agreement. Accordingly, the club has terminated his contract and has informed the NRL's Integrity Unit."

Barba was attempting to revive his career in the NRL after a stint in the Super League following his sacking by Cronulla after the 2016 grand final win for a second positive drug test.

  • Probably the biggest fuckwit to ever play the game

  • Some dickheads just don't learn.  What a fool!  Given yet another chnace and blows it. CLOWN!

      • Frankie - there's truth to what you say.

Barba is more of the same. A tragedy, that's not to be unexpected. Hayne. In multiple countries. Wighton. Dylan Walker. Napa. Norman.  Dogs sex rape scandal. Burgess Rabbits sex scandal. Lodge. Tim Smith. Todd Carney. Mitchell Pearce's dog. Bryce Cartwright's ex-girlfriend scandal. Smith-Cronk sexual issues. Ma'u was rescued by NRL. That's a list off the top of my head without google. I wonder how many cover ups there has been.

Many NRL players live in a dangerous testerone-filled bubble.

Once you add alcohol and drugs: it's almost a guaranteed train wreck. Without seatbelts. Most wouldn't know how normal people live or work these days.

        Then there's life after footy.

For the lucky few post-footy might be in media or coaching gigs, or in rugby league in some capacity.

They've really got to plan a life after footy or else up with a broken body and without too many skills. And they're not really paid much compared to other professional sports. Shaun Lane who is studying at Uni, is at least thinking with his melon. Rugby Union players traditionally have had the upper hand at degrees or business post-footy; and often start life in priveleged private schools.

Years ago RL players would often work outside of footy to give them some resemblance of a normal life. But even then it doesn't mean they'd end up in a great spot either. Look at Ray Price. One of the greats. He was lucky that he ended up a bus driver up in QLD. Look at Steve Sharp. Alan Langer is a water-boy and I suppose on-field assistant coach of sorts.

Maybe the one benefit of staying loyal to a club for a reasonable time is the carrot od a post footy career. Luke Burt. Nathan Cayless. Kenny for a while. Wonder if that's been in Mannah's head for a while? Not sure if coaching or media would be for him. I wouldn't want to see him as a mascot.

        Not an easy gig.

          • What that got to do this post, Grunta? Seems to me you got a hard on for Fong! We're talking about Barba and you come up with this? Have you a thing for Fong?

                    • Is that a fat Filipino?

          • Speaking of learning to count Grunta,  why don't you count how many times you have run away and comeback with a new alias and then pretended to applaud yourself for going after Fong.

Just a hint, when you need other aliases to have conversations with yourself, you are in trouble mate

  • I find it funny actually, NQ deserve everything they get after how some of their fans acted at the 2017 elimination finals.  Not to mention the 2005 preliminary final, may they suffer.
