Another Article aimed at Matterson. A good read. Also those that are saying BA has sanctioned or agreed with Mattersons stance. Make no mistake their is absolutely no indication what so ever that BA has agreed with this. It is not in his interest, its not in the teams interest and certainly not in the supporters interest. Matterson has only said he spoke to the club before he made his decision.  The club meaning anybody at the club, its a throw away line by Matterson. Dont let your hatred or bias cloud your opinion. What Matterson is doing is ripping the heart out of our playing group, in the most selfish of ways. This is huge and massive , the players will take this to heart and Mattersons stance will divide the change room, this will become a huge issue for our year next year. Its a rot that cannot be allowed to fester.

BA will have  to address it, now, during pre season,  during the first 3 rounds and during next year.

Aaron Woods’ brutal sledge after Ryan Matterson cops controversial ban

by Joey Riordan: News.NRL sports.

Eels star Ryan Matterson continues to pay the price for his controversial move to cop a three-match ban rather than a $4000 fine.

Eels forward Ryan Matterson continues to pay the price for choosing a three-game ban over a $4000 fine in the wake of his side’s grand final loss to the Panthers.

The skilful lock hit was with a crusher tackle charge following an incident involving Penrith’s Dylan Edwards in the NRL decider shortly after halftime, but surprised everyone when he elected to take the three-game ban instead of parting with his cash.

“I just feel that $4000 is pretty hefty considering I have already paid close to $4000 in fines this year for things that are absurd,” Matterson told AAP.

“At the end of the day I have personal things I need to worry about outside of rugby league. I just didn’t think it was warranted.

“If you do something wrong at work. They don’t take money off you.”

you.”

Ryan Matterson of the Eels looks dejected after defeat in the 2022 NRL Grand Final match between the Penrith Panthers and the Parramatta Eels.

The decision has gone down like a lead balloon among past players, with Penrith great Mark Geyer suggesting it shows a lack of passion for the Parramatta jersey from the 27-year-old.

Dragons prop Aaron Woods took the criticism even further on Thursday morning, declaring Matterson would be banished from the change rooms if he made the same decision while playing for the Red V.

“He’s just one of the tightest humans you’ll meet. I can’t believe it, there’s no way I’d miss a game, I’d pay $50,000 to play one game,”

“If he was at the Dragons he’d be in the other change room because he wouldn’t be allowed in our one, he’d be with the NSW Cup team.

“I don’t understand, some people would be dying to play an NRL game and he’s missing it for $4000.”

Woods even referenced Matterson’s recent re-signing on a big-money deal with the Eels, an agreement that came after the in-form forward made indications he was interested in a move to the Dolphins.

“Just quietly he just got a big upgrade, he took the Dolphins for a bit of a ride then came back and got a good squeeze out of Parramatta,” Woods said.

“But he’s only human, we’d probably all do the same thing (during negotiations).”

Matterson, who made his Origin debut for NSW in 2022, also copped a salty response from Jarome Luai after the Eels forward accused the Penrith five-eighth of kicking out at teammate Isaiah Papali’i while justifying his decision not to accept the crusher ban.

Jarome Luai hit back at Matterson's comments in an Instagram story.

“Considering Jarome Luai is kicking players and he didn’t get cited. It makes you think ‘Where is this game heading?’” Matterson told AAP.

Luai responded on social media by poking fun at Matterson’s perceived hardship.

The controversial playmaker reposted an image on his Instagram stories, which showed Matterson’s quote.

He added three crying emojis, and the chorus to R&B star Kennyon Brown’s song Cry 4 You.

  • For me Aaron Woods nails it - if it happened at St George the players wouldnt allow him in their change room.

  • Spot on.

if Arthur didn't sanction it, and I'm almost positive he didn't, it confirms what Snake said about the tail wagging the dog in this joint

    • 6%? Lol how is you maths? If Matto is making 650k then 4 grand is about 0.6%

            • I'm not sure Dreggsie but I think you mentioning my wife and my mother crosses most lines......see you later Dreggsie I hope they give you long enough to get us past xmas.

              • Give it a rest Poppa, don't pick fights with people and you won't get this sort of outcome......

Even a simple person like you should understand this.

                • Thanks for reminding me JB and for the record.

                  • Poppa I know what was said, I don't agree with what he said and he should be dealt with accordingly.

But honestly Poppa, why poke the bear?

        • Greggs thats not how it works mate, as Wiz pointed out in another blog re taxes etc. Each player is actually a sole trader business and a sub contractor in business model. What is a fact is that for season 2023 he earns $24,000 a game. Based on the home and away season. If he plays rep footy then even more.

Its no different  to any trady paying their fines for sub standard works or mistakes they make with their business, or their contractors licence, insurances, speeding fines you can go on and on. The 4k is very very minimal mate for someone earing $625K a year.  If you were on say $50k a year its the equivelent fine of $320.

            • Ok Scott, I understand its hard for you to get it and get the whole cause and effect scenerio but because your a youngster or you really dont understand it when its explained to you. Its no shame, not understanding what the big boys are talking about.  I really should have considered your ability and where you are in life Scott. So i'll change it up a little. If on your paper route you earn $80 a week then yes 4k is too much for you to grasp, it will take you nearly all year to earn 4k. So i get it, not only do you keep your money but in this case you also get 3 weeks holidays whilst still getting your $80. Its okay because your work mates will cover your workload, whilst your away. There you go Scotty,  I agree with you now - are you happy.

                • So your not happy now.
