I know this blog is not particularly Rugby League related however, is it just me or are the conditions of the Australian Roads in the worst condition theyve ever been in ? I cant speak for exactly every place and town or city in Australia but I have travelled over a vast majority of Highways and roads throughout this great nation and the vast majority of roads and in particular country roads are in a disgusting condition. I personally think they can actually contribute towards road accidents and fatalities. Im not sure what Govt dept is responsible for the funding and upkeep of the highways and major roads whether its a local council issue or a state and federal govt issue but there definitely needs to be a review done as soon as possible. Who is responsible for the cost of the upkeep of your vehicle suspension system if it becomes dangerously depleted through driving over poorly and dangerous roads due to the failure of proper upgrades? Id be interested to know what other members on here think of the current road conditions where they live or on their journeys.

Thanks Browny, $2.2 Billion to cover particular dangerous road areas seems quite small in comparision to the $ the Govt spends on other projects of kess importance. Makes you wonder where their priorities lay. There are so many country roads in particular that are absolutely atrociuos and death traps.
There is simply to much traffic on the roads to cope. Also councils and government are reluctant to do maintance until the roads are extremely bad as there simply isn't enough government funding.
The reasoning comes down to the same issue as most other problems in the country. They keep trying to artificially grow the population through immigration which is puting to much pressure on infrastructure.
The argument for larger populations is flawed as they preach that you need more tax payers to pay for the aging population. The problem is our infrastructure can not cope with the extra people so is actually costing more than it would to maintain the status quo or grow population naturally.
Where do u live champ
Monto
Brad, I'm Currently working between Warwick and Goondiwindi in Qld Brad and the major Hwy is the Cunningham and it's in deplorable condition and I understand they're doing there best to patch up parts of the Hwy but it's the worst I've seen. It's a major thoroughfare for trucks going inland to Victoria and South Australia. I also own a place in Monto ( hence my avatar name) and the roads through Inglewood, Millmerran, Dalby, and the North and South Burnett are disgusting.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - to start with Monto you are in QueeRZland which has THE worst roads in all of the supposedly First World countries of the world.
Cunningham Hwy has been the deadliest road in Oz since it was built, particularly The Gap.
Next we cannot afford to finance Adani AND build decent roads together, so the Money bags are the winners.
Federal Highways are supposedly Federal responsibility, State Highways, main roads and arterials are state jurisdiction with local councils responsible for local roads.
Who finances all of this? - you, me and all the other punters who do not get value for the rip off government's claim are for roads and infrastructure.
BTW, the old Burnett councils were all but bankrupt which is why the roads are crap.
Sir Col, your absolutely accurate! I wasn't always in Queensland s I grew up in Wentworthvile and went to school there etc... So I'm a NSW person at heart. Qld is not te same place it used to be perhaps just like NSW.
Same Monto - grew up in Eastwood - came to QueeRZland working on Expo 88 and haven't managed to escape since.
Back in '88 it was a nice friendly laid back open place with plenty of white shoes around town but slowly coming to life - now (without icluding government) it is rated the 17th MOST CORRUPT area in the world.
All the money goes to the vested interests while the punters get shafted and are forced to own 4X4's just to traverse half the city streets without thinking of heading our of town.
I travel BrizVegas to Stanthorpe regularly and the Cunningham Goat Track from Aratula to the bottom of the hill is 60 k's tops if you want to save your suspension and a fortune on Physiotherapiststs.
Dammed if I know how the heavy trucks do it.
Hit the hill (Cunningham's Gap) and they have been "upgrading" that since around 1788.
A older bus driver who regularly goes over Cunninghams Gap reckons the Americans offered to build a tunnel through the Gap just after or during World War 2 as a courtesy thing for the American troops being here. The Government of the day apparently said no. Fair dinkum, the 17th most corrupt area in the world! Is that Brisbane or Qld in particular?
17th is QueeRZland - if they concentrated on the SE corner only I reckon we could be in the race for first place.
On the Yanks thing - evidently the Yanks offered many similar projects around Australia (particularly on the East Coast) with a NO for everyone of them.
That's what happens when you leave politicians in charge.
