Australian anthem dumped

This year's NRL All Stars game between rugby league's best Indigenous and Maori players is reportedly set to abandon the pre-match national anthem.Led by South Sydney Rabbitohs' 2020 recruit Latrell Mitchell and other senior Indigenous players, according to News Corp the ARL Commission is set to scrap the singing of the Australian national anthem before the star-studded exhibition game.In a symbolic post to mark the news, Mitchell put up an image on Instagram wearing a shirt with the Aboriginal flag, taken by the NRL's chief photographer. The post was accompanied by the caption: "Being Aboriginal is not the colour of your skin or how broad your nose is. It is a spiritual feeling, an identity you know in your heart. It is a unique feeling that is difficult for non-Aboriginal to fully understand."Mitchell also posted an image in his Instagram story of the Indigenous All Stars' traditional war dance that he led, split with an image of former NFL star Colin Kaepernick on the cover of TIME magazine. Kaepernick was famously outcast by the sport he once excelled in, after his kneeling protests during the US national anthem caused a storm across the States.Latrell Mitchell's post and story featuring Colin Kaepernick (Instagram)The former Roosters star will play in this year's All Stars clash on February 22 at Cbus Super Stadium onthe Gold Coast. In recent years Mitchell has been more vocal about the pride he has in his Indigenous heritage and in voicing the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, becoming an active and passionate advocate for the Indigenous community.During Australia Day last month Mitchell marched alongside fellow Indigenous NRL stars to protest 'Invasion Day' and call for the date of the national holiday to be changed.
