The recent brawl at a rugby league match in Orange has reminded me of another shocking incident that I think occurred around 2002 (give or take a year or two). I think it was a junior match in NSW, where a player headbutted and then punched a referee. The referee received some serious facial injuries as a result.
I've searched around for references and/or footage of this incident but couldn't find anything.
Does anyone remember this incident?

I'm guessing it was the match referenced here (under A Flashback to 1995):

"A Blacktown Workers player (who shall remain nameless), was sent from the field of play. He responded by head butting the referee, (I think the referees name was Jones), and knocking him to the ground. One of our players, (who shall also remain nameless, but wore the number 11 jumper), then “jobbed” the Workers player.
The game was held up for close to an hour whilst the police were called.
The Workers player received a life ban.
The video of the incident made it onto the news, and was even seen on an American sports show."
I didn't think it was that far back but it must have been in 1995. I don't recall ever seeing another incident quite like it in league!
I can't find any footage out there at all. I would've thought that it would be around somewhere out there.
