Arthur vows to stick by the club

AN emotional Brad Arthur has vowed he won’t quit Parramatta and become the latest coaching casualty at the troubled club.Breaking his silence on the bungled Kieran Foran contract fiasco, Arthur said: “I am not the sort of bloke who will walk away.“I have started something and I am going to finish it. I am committed to the players and I am committed to our fans.”Arthur was also adamant Foran was not to blame for this week’s disastrous developments that now appear certain to cost the Eels any hope of securing the star off-contract playmaker.Arthur said: “Kieran can hold his head up.”When asked about his own uncertain future amid growing speculation Parramatta were already hunting a new head coach, Arthur vowed: “I have got two years to run on my contract and I will be here and I will be making sure that turns into a lot longer.“I won’t be letting our players down and I won’t be letting the fans down.“I am going to make sure that we work hard to turn it around and do our best.“I am going to make sure I am here a lot longer than two years.”Parramatta have an extraordinary recent history of making the coach the fall guy when things turn bad.Arthur is the seventh Parramatta coach in the past decade.Since Brian Smith departed, the list of coaches includes Jason Taylor, Michael Hagan, Daniel Anderson, Steve Kearney and Ricky Stuart. There have been reports that Arthur has now fallen out with Anderson, who is the Eels’ current head of football operations. On Wednesday The Daily Telegraph reported claims that Anderson had already discussed which coaches he would consider bringing to Parramatta, including former Super League coach and ex-Eels player James Webster, should the club part ways with Arthur.Asked directly if he had dramas with Anderson, Arthur said: “No, none at all.“Not that I know of. I haven’t lied to you yet. I honestly believe I don’t.“I have to put all my energy into this football team. That is where all my energy goes.”Arthur refused to divulge any details about Foran’s contract details or conversations he has had with the Manly five-eighth, who initially signed with the Eels so he could be coached by Arthur.Arthur said: “I do not want to talk about it (his dealings with Foran).“That is a private conversation and it is private information. It is no disrespect to the media but it is out of respect (to Foran).“The only thing that I will say is that Kieran can hold his head up because he has handled himself very professionally.”Asked if he still held hope Foran would join the Eels next season, Arthur added: “I have made my comment on Kieran.“I just want to make clear that Kieran has done everything totally professionally.”Originally published as Arthur: ‘I won’t walk away from Eels’http://www.news.com.au/national/eels-coach-brad-arthur-vows-to-stick-with-club-despite-kieran-foran-fiasco-adding-to-internal-pressure/story-e6frfkp9-1227413389433

  • You have to respect this mans integrity. As the old saying goes, integrity is earned by the teaspoon and lost by the truck load. I know some ppl here don't rate his coaching ability highly, but I do rate his no BS approach to his men and to the f..ked up media personalities that are constantly harassing him with fckd up questions.
    • Agreed
  • Again ... I remain 100% certain that Foran will be playing for the eels in 2016.
Stop all the scaremongering, the media are scumbags and kicking the eels has become a national pastime.
    We will prevail here.
    • I am also of the belief he will be an eel in 2016

    • Fong give it up. No disrespect but you are becoming as bad as the media.
  • In Brad we trust
  • Feel sorry for the bloke, he has the hardest job in the NRL. Loses the best player in the game lands a big name in Foran only for Management to stuff it up.  Having Anderson sniffing around can't be easy as well.

  • Great to see someone in our club standing up for us, the fans.
  • I've always backed BA and even more so now. The guy is "Blue & Gold" through & through. If you want someone in the trenches with you BA is the man.

  • Champion. Finally someone willing to bleed for the club. This is the type of culture we need at our club. Well done BA.
