ARTHUR PUNTS POTTER FROM PARRA

PARRAMATTA Eels have punted assistant coach Mick Potter for next season.

Eels general manager Mark O’Neill says it was Brad Arthur’s decision, which is surprising considering the team have gone from wooden spooners to fifth on the ladder this year.

“Pottsy is a terrific bloke and has done a wonderful job,” O’Neill said. “I was consulted but it was Brad’s call. Assistants are appointed by the head coach.”

O’Neill said no decision will be made on a replacement until after the season.

Potter, a Dally M player of the year winner, has coached at Wests Tigers, Newcastle and Parramatta.

  • Can someone who has actual information please let us know what happened here?

  • he may to good in brads eyes, and later take hes job.

i would say brad  got another one lined up..

    • Robert Maxwell : I say you are near spot on with that. Interesting that Mark O`Neill says that Pottor has done a wonderful job but it was Arthur`s call---- in public!?

    • Well he also sent Justin Holbrook packing when he was pushing to be more involved with the NRL side . Roosters snapped him up the next day and the rest is history .

      • 100% correct Wiz , BA does not want anyone who may be a threat to his job or who has more footy nous than he does .

All the top coaches hire the best people they can find and keep them for as long as possible  but not BA, Trent Robinson has Taylor a ex first grade coach,  Murray who the knights just hired as their coach and Fitzgibbon who will be a coach because he wants people around him who can help him.

The club could tell BA that they have Toovey and Flanagan wanting to come to the club and be his assistants and he would still refuse because they would show him up,  one can only imagine the no name bum BA will hire.

        • Fong, you're only guessing here. It could be that Potter wasn't accepted by the players. Newcastle also punted him.

          • Ha ha as far as I know Taylor has been demoted.

          • Am  I only guessing that BA has a history of hiring bums as his assistants? Compare what BA has surrounded himself with over the years to what the top coaches have and you will see the difference.

    • I don't think he is scared of potter taking his job since he got his 2 year extension

  • all you see is kidwell.... maybe mannah or gower , or n brown... could replace him
