Arthur on 360

Says Papa has indicated to the club he wants to remain at the Eels and that he is believes his management and the tigers will have to decide if that can happen... maybe because Maguire met with Arthur about assistant coach position 🤔

    • I mean we will never know that for sure, but he needs assistants that are looking at head coaching spots in the future. Put it this way for any assistant to get a top job, the team they are with need to be great. There are exceptions of course, but majority of the time team needs to be great to be even considered. If Madge came to us and we did well with him there he will get a job elsewhere, but if we do well not only is Madge looked at favourably but so is BA. If we do poor both are looked down on. I mean either way if they do well BA stays regardless of who is assistant, do bad BA is on hot seat or is gone regardless who is assistant. So if that is the case it makes no sense to be concerned about a top assistant other than undermining which can happen but great coaches get a hold of that quickly and if the players get swayed from the assistant from the undermining then they didn't believe the coach in the first place.

  • Maguire as an assistant? What, so if the current bum is dumped, another bum stands up in his place? That'll do me.

Thought Ice had already confirmed he was honouring the contract with the Pussies?

BA's interview is the same old, same old. Chase the collision, physicality blah blah blah. What about playing some footy, instead of this one up shit?

    • Yep, well said.

    • the other "Bum" you speak of has had success overseas,  won an NRL comp and coached an international side . Way more credentialed than BA i doubt he'd want him breathing down his neck and telling him truths about his son to be honest.

      • He's a one trick pony too. He lost the dressing room at South's and didn't really show much at the Pussies either. I don't rate him.

Michael Hagan was also thought successful too. But he had a team of great players at Newy and achieved nothing at the Eels.

        • Who do you rate as a coach that's available? If you were told you could pick someone toy start coaching the Eels as of tomorrow, who would it be??

          • He has his detractors, but I would go for Flannagan. I've always liked the way the Sharks play and the team he built. Always competitive and he kept the players accountable.

Eels need to have a hard look at recruitment though and it's not as simple as swapping out the coach. Players aren't performing as they know BA won't drop them. He even said as much last night on NRL360. The players coming through are not putting pressure on the 1st grade players, and BA's hands are tied with dropping players. Penrith perform week in, week out, as they have players nipping at their heels for a place in 1st grade. We don't have that.

            • I have to say that I agree with you 100% here 👍🏻

            • So you don't want a premiership winning coach because he is a one trick pony but you do want a coach who's sharks squad achieved nothing until they rorted the cap and he oversaw the systematic drugging of his players?

Flanagan is the biggest myth of a coach ever.

The worst thing Parra could do is have that deadbeat involved with the club.

  • I think eels forward pack would suit madge's coaching style...
