The game has changed a lot since the concerns of concussion injuries  and possible litigation. The game last night was great however lots of stopages and some very difficult decisions for referees to stick to  safety issues. I am sure there will be a lot of discussion around preventative measures to address these concerns. I would suspect lots of parents will start thinking about steering their kids to other codes.

  • They'll bring in helmets imo, a swinging arm isn't going to affect the attacker wearing a helmet.  The game is very unpredictable at the moment. Its impossible to adjust whilst a player is slipping and lowering their height  It's gone too far and many will switch off.

    • What other sport has the number of stopages due to injury Concerns?

  • It's an interesting point in time for sure.

I think legalities will determine the future - ppl have wanted full contact sport for centuries and the explosive growth of the UFC is evidence of that.

im guessing but I can see a situation where sports like NRL will do all they can to protect players AND players will sign waivers to participate accepting there are levels of risk they are accepting and which can't be removed from the game despite best efforts of all.

if this point is reached I see no problem because in many professions there are risks and ppl die at work all the time so we have to accept this is part of life IMO

  • I wonder? With modern attitudes, woke culture, cancel culture, litigious culture, will we have full contact sport in a few decades? I like watching MMA, mostly UFC, there are loud influential voices that want this sport banned, some call for boxing to be banned, so I don’t know.

Tad, I say to my Mrs , I’m glad I’m not 18 again in today’s world, I am glad I am old, so much more to navigate today, sometimes ignorance is bliss, they way it was when I was young.

    • Great last paragraph  My Bob. Historically in my life time it is very difficult to navigate our values in finding a more comfortable  headspace

      • Tad , I’ve had the day to think about my post and your reply. As much as some of us talk about “the good old days” and we may wrestle in our mind with the way the world works, I think you, I and others should take comfort in the truth that the world is getting better. By many metrics, literacy is increasing, poverty is decreasing, it is not all bad news.

        • Watch SBS news My Bob.It's bloody depressing. I noticed that the Iranian elections had a turnout of 49%.The head honcho eliminated any candidates from participating who was a threat to his view of the world .Same in Russia, Myanmar, Hong Kong, and plenty more

.I did have a discussion about how things are with an old mate of mine yesterday..He says much the same.as what you said that the world is getting better.I don,t really know. Maybe I am too close to left-wing politics and see things with a lens to how kids of the future are going to live. The other day I saw a standard suburban home sell for 1.45 million in Ocean shores !8 klm out of Byron. .I bought my first house in 1977 for $21000 at age 25 ish on one income. My wife was a stay-at-home mum with 3 kids. You would never see that today. My daughter told me she saw lots of posts on Facebook saying people's rents have increased by $50 to $100 a week over the past month. There seems to be a big divide these days between some who are doing fine and some who are really struggling Lots of homeless people at Byron Bay and surrounds.

I was discussing this with my Mrs and she gave me a viewpoint that I would like to share with you. I was talking about my loss of faith with humanity, how so much of the world sucks, whether it is the treatment of floor workers by Amazon, the internment of Uyghurs in China, the continual Israeli - Palestine conflict, Syria, how hard it is for our young ones to buy a house, etc, etc, etc. She said that you can not empathise with all of this, it will just depress you if you take it on, you can not effect it, it is outside your area of influence. All you can do is educate others about the situation, spread the word if you like, you have to be a bit detached about it, or it will bring you down.

I have read enough of your posts Tad  to understand you are a good person with a good heart, but you must not let it all bring you down. It is like a trauma surgeon, imagine if this surgeon cried and was broken with every death or broken body they are confronted with, it would eventually wreck them, so they have to become detached, it is the only they can protect themselves.

Help your kids if you can and if they appreciate it, this you can directly influence, be aware of the world events but don’t let it depress you.

            • When you're young you tend to be very naive and believe everything in life is fair and that everyone deep down is a good person..

I tell you what I've learnt in my 46 years on this earth.

The world is truly a battle ground between good and evil. This is not a fantasy or a figment of imagination, this truly exists.
There are extremely rich powerful people, rich powerful international corporations, rich powerful so called humanitarian bodies and governments that are evil to its core who all conspire and work together with a common goal...

They are all collectively driven by one goal and one goal only - complete utter power and total control.
There are no conspiracies but there are also no coincidences.
At the core, all of their motives and plans are aimed at ensuring that the status quo remains and that their wealth and power remains unquestioned and unchallenged.

I think the world is headed towards the end game - one world government, controlled by these unelected elites.

              Think I'm crazy - let's talk in 10 years.

              • The only thing that will reset this is a good old fashioned World War and I don't mean one without bullets like the one we are locked into right now that China kicked off .

That's where we are heading . If only more people were intelligent enough to listen and take in what Ben Shapiro highlights hey Tank.
