Are Sports players Salaries becoming out of Hand

Seriously, as good as some of these athletes are whatever the sporting code might be: Rugby League, Rugby Union, Tennis, Cricket, soccer etc..? In my opinion personally I think it's becoming and has been for awhile absolutely outrageous and ridiculous. I mean as good as Ronaldo, Messi the soccer players are should Ronaldo's  salary be $133 Million for signing a contract with a Saudi Arabian team? He's already worth an estimated $8 Billion. Now Rugby League players Salaries are creeping up into the millions. I'm aware athletes train hard and risk injuries etc... I can think of people in the workforce that get paid scraps compared to these athletes and their jobs are far more beneficial to society. I think it's absurd. What about Police officers, nurses, firemen, soldiers who risk their lives continually? Isn't their profession of more value that most athletes? What about the starving children, the homeless and destitute? Surely that money would be better spent helping those? I just think the World has gone mad

  • If hundreds of thousands to millions of people want to watch a sportsman then they pay. They pay for tickets or for viewing rights or for merchandise,  then of course the sportsman should get his cut.  I think NRL players should be paid more, they are getting ripped off. This  cap shit is crap.

Its not the sportspersons fault people want to pay to watch them and not pay to watch nurses etc etc. Mind you fans only nurses sounds like it would reap $$. Hell im sure some would pay for Firies, soldiers and police on fans only as well. Imagine how resourced they could be.

    • Good points Blue Eel but I personally think they're getting paid way too much. The money could be better spent elsewhere.

      • Well then don't buy tickets to games, don't watch the game on TV and give that money to where you think that should go. You're the one deciding to pay athletes what they are getting paid.

        • Brett, I'm not paying athletes anything and if I was I most certainly would pay a player no matter who he or she was and no matter how good they are a staggering $133 Million for a contract. That money is could be far better spent. I'm not against athletes getting a salary. I most definitely am against the outrageous amounts when in reality kids are dying every day of starvation, people are homeless and millions live in dire poverty.

          • 2 entirely different issues PT47,it's hard to accept these injustices exist I don't see the coloration

            • The colleration (money and it's use in particular athletes salary) is all about money Mick. At the end of the day the 'Super Star' athletes that are paid outrageous amounts of money for example Cristiano Ronaldo who has a value of $8 Billion and has now been offered a contract worth $133 Million for having the ability to kick a ball into a net. Yet the same money or at least a part thereof could be used to:

              1. Feed the starving millions of children and give them homes.

              2. Create jobs for the unemployed.

              3. Help the homeless

          • You are paying them though, where do you think that money comes from ?

          • But if the players didn't get paid that money, do you actually think it would go to the homeless ?

            • I'd like to think it would or at least a percentage of their salaries given their outrageous amounts. I mean seriously Brett, could you do spend $133 Million without turning a blind eye to those children who have nothing?

"For sure, as mentioned, 800k & there's no way the Eels will look at him. 600-650k, is possibly a different story. As you mentioned with salary cap, those centres might've been 600k but that was decent coin also.
100% agree though that it all depends…"

"I think we need to find a winger not a centre. I just don't see how signing Lomax helps with our long term planning of the club. If Talagi does well at 5/8 we will want him to play centre when Moses is back or at a minimum play him at 14. However by…"
