After seeing the Tigers upset the "Competition favorites" this afternoon, is anybody worried about taking them on in rounds 4 & 8?

There was a comment on here today, I think it was in the "Josh Reynolds is in doubt for the Tigers" blog earlier today. Someone said something along the lines of "Who cares, the Tigers aren't exactly the top end of town at the moment". Well, whoever said that has got a really bitter taste in his mouth right now.

It was 2 - 2 points all at halftime, and the Tigers were leading 4 points to 2 until the 65th minute when the Roosters scored the first try of the match & converted to lead 8 poins to 4.

Judging by the closeness of the game and lack of tries for the first 64 minutes, it looked as though that would remain the score line until full time. But with only a few minutes left in the game, the tigers scored their own converted try in the corner to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat and, they did it without Josh Reynolds.

Two upsets this weekend, Manly & Roosters against teams that were full of new players making their debuts for their new club.
What ever happened to "It's gonna take time for these new players to gel at their new club"? Did they underestimate the Tigers ?

Were the Roosters at their best? Would the Tigers have beaten any other club this afternoon?

Should we be worried about taking them on in rounds 4 & 8 when we'll hopefully have Gutherson back on the paddock ?

By the way, I'm gonna take this opportunity to boast a little about the Knights & Tigers upsets ;)

When we saw the Knights play the way they did against Manly yesterday, that was actually what I was expecting from them when we played them in the trial the other week. Knights coach Nathan Brown wasn't kidding before the trial when he said "We're not worried about winning or losing, we just wanna work on our combinations".

How differently would everyone on here feel going into tomorrows game had the Knights played the trial against us the way they played against Manly yesterday and beat us?

On Wednesday night whilst the missus and I were putting our footy tips in and we came up to the Tigers v Roosters game, I said "I reckon the Tigers might upset them". Now I'm kicking myself for not picking them.

  • No not at all they defend well in that game but roosters threw nothing at them & the tigers had enough ball to win 10 games & only scored 1 try
  • Tigers will upset a few teams this year
  • Just about every team is capable of an upsetin today's game.

Yep trials are trials and im shocked at how much weight people on here seem to place on them.
  • Roosters were just terrible. This game spoke more about how crap the Roosters played.

  • Tigers are a good side and Ivan Cleary is certainly a quality coach. The first round of the season especially with a home ground advantage is always difficult for any side even the competition favourites. I really don’t see why the Roosters are the favourites anyway! I think a few teams will surprise this year including Tigers, Knights and Souths and a few of the favoured teams will slide, namely the Broncos, Manly, Sharks and Cowboys.

    • You really think the Cowboys and Sharks will slide?

  • There is no easy games in the NRL and over the past 4 or so seasons the comp has been getting harder and harder and this season will be harder again.  The salary cap actually works!

  • Roosters are not going to do well. I’ve been thinking this for a while. Cronk needs Smith, tedesco is an individual star.

    • I forgot to add the main thing that I wanted to say about the Knights when I said "I just wanna take this opportunity to boast a little".

Just before our trial against them kicked off the other week, I got on here and warned everyone not to be surprised and upset if the result didn't go our way because on paper, they look the goods.

Well, how lucky are we that they didn't perform the way they did against Manly and they didn't care about winning or losing and only wanted to work on their combinations?
I mean, I know it was only a trial but had we lost, you never know, B.A might've done a few things differently with his selections for round 1.

  • Tigers showed more grit than they did last year but the Roosters played like jerks and got punished. The Tigers had Brooks in the bin for 10 mins of the 2nd half and the Roosters still tried for hero solo runs and Benji just kicked for touch a few times and kept the ball off of them. Roosters played like they just had to be there and a win would eventuate, and they ended up being a bit rudderless as a Cronk couldn’t find his runners and Friend at 5/8 was a total disaster.

So Eels should get 4 points in their two Tigers games if our halves play to their potential, because there were holes out wide in the Tigers outside backs that an attacking line working together should exploit. Hope I’m right!
