Not at his asking price. It's clear he wanted to leave. That's history, but the error was buying an ageing replacement coming off serious injury and having no viable backup.

Seriously. One of the most important positions on the field.
You cant buy a halfback , 5/8 or hooker that is decent anywhere.
Honestly? Not even a little bit. If this year has proven anything it's that he was only good in a good team. He's got Napoleon complex and is not a big game player. He gets annoyed when things don't go his way and has a hissy fit.
Watching Mahoney's game, his ‘leadership’, decision making, and especially his reactions in media, feel pretty strongly the Eels got this one right now (I was initially on the opposite side of the fence).
The Eels error was probably more in not planning for a genuine replacement, and having to use an inexperienced Hands far too much, far too soon, but there is definitely a player there.
2022 has been marred with questions around the players culture, but Hands & Hopgood have been shining lights in that area.
Listening to their interviews, these two aren’t just good players, they are good people with selfless personalities, they are motivated to improve. Both scream leadership quality & you get the sense both will drive culture in the future.
Something we can’t equate to Reed Mahoney & something the Eels clearly need more of.
We may have missed Reeds game this season, but we wont miss Reed in the long run, we might just have to be patient.
No, our hookers done well considering the circumstances. Next year they will be better prepared with a offseason under their belts. Sivo, Waqa need to be moved on they also contributed to loses we couldn't afford, I see younger kids playing at other clubs playing better & smarter football. Has BA run out of the ideas, have asked myself that question, he seems to be doing ok. Consider what may have been, if some players had made better decisions outside of football, others having brain explosions that cost us, cost us a spot in the top 8 which was very disappointing. But I don't think any other coach could have done better with this team. Our depth ain't good enough, we need to find some up & coming talent real quick, this squad going to struggle next year & heads should roll. How our salary cap doing?
I mean yes, in the sense that we suit the way he plays and vice versa. When looking at recruitment, the question i ask on a prospect is are they better than what we have or they are replacing? Is Mahoney better than Hands and Lussick? Definately. Can we get by as a team with Hands and Lussick? Maybe. Though i do like Matt Arthur, think he has the goods, his size suits the position he plays unlike Jake.
Jake Arthur got an absolute rails run to the NRL WAY before his time but that horse has been well and truly ridden. And his father continues to be a boil we just can’t seem to get rid of but out of the ashes, Matthew Arthur can actually play. I don’t know how far he can go and I hope that he serves his apprenticeship behind Lussick for a few years but there is real potential there. Unfortunately BA will probably have him at 14 to start the year and completely destroy any potential or confidence that he may possess.
"Sorry mate, it is an 8 year deal with options, Once exercised there is no deal anymore.
Chief is being disingenius and the reality is if Jesus Christ was coaching Parra, Dyllan had to leave for that amount of money.
I don't believe he ever wanted to…"

Massive loss

Agree, very well said.

We couldn't keep judas, he stabbed Parramatta Jesus in the back for 30 silver coins in a paperbag.
I was shattered at 1st, but to be honest after watching him play this season, No.
He carried on about how much he LOVES the club and he hasn't been there for 12 months.
Good luck to him, he wanted a bigger pay check and captaincy.
We unearthed Hands this season, Hodgson was coming good until he hurt his neck and with a full preseaon under his belt Lussick will be better in 2024.
