  North Queensland skipper Johnathan Thurston has escaped punishment from the Cowboys following his early-morning, post-season arrest in Brisbane.
  
  Thurston's captaincy was under immense pressure after he was locked up in the Brisbane Watchhouse on September 16, but the club's board on Friday accepted the injured Test halfback's version of events.
  
  While recovering from foot surgery, the 27-year-old was arrested on a public nuisance charge after being asked to leave the Treasury Casino following a late night of drinking.
  
  According to a club statement, Thurston told the North Queensland board he failed to follow club protocols and offered to pay a sum into the Cowboys Community Fund.
  
  "The board has accepted Johnathan's denial of the allegations which appeared in the media," the club said in a statement.
  
  "Both the club and Johnathan acknowledge that he did not follow protocol set by the club in regard to his injury rehabilitation.
  
  "To the extent to which his actions have not reflected his positive work in the community, Johnathan has volunteered to make a meaningful contribution through the Cowboys Community Fund.
  
  "The club and Johnathan consider the matter resolved and offer no further comment, other than that both are now looking positively towards the 2011 season."

  There was never any chance of anything different ever happening. There was no way the Cowboys were ever going to release their marquee player, whether he wanted to go or not. The hysteria that was generated on this site by some over the possibility of Thurston leaving the Cowboys and joining the Eels was absurd. Those that were 99.9% sure about Thurston coming have now been shown to be the frauds that we should have all seen they were weeks ago. Thurston was never, ever any chance of coming. Some of you have wasted weeks of your life waiting for the messiah to come. Let's hope this will never be mentioned again.

      Not my view mate, I didn't want him here on moral grounds. There are, however, quite a few on this site of the belief that if (some thought when) Thurston signed on they might as well give us the trophy before the season started.
