  • What??? Burt And Grothe are signed for next year or do you mean year after?
  • i heard on talking sport that luke burt has signed with cronulla not confirmed yet
    • This rumour was just a gee-up on too tough tunks part. Burt isn't going to the sharks.
  • I meant they were in new contract negotiations and wondered how they were going.Lot of rumours flooding around thats all
  • FACTS ARE BURT IS STAYING , GROTHE WILL BE AN EEL IN 2010 IF NO CONTRACT CAN BE MADE IN JAPAN
  • cheers.Saw Burt at Parra fan day and he said'I will never leave this club unless they want me to ' The wife and myself huge fans of the player but worried with the cap that we may turn our back on him .With his contract up at the end of next year, just trying to get inside scoop on any progress.
  • What you guys must understand is that if a player is contracted, they cannot just 'be released'. If a club decides they no longer require a contracted player, their contract must be paid out - which of course is counted under the salary cap. Now, if a player finds an opportunity at another club AND if his club is happy to allow him to take that opportunity, then he is 'released' - at no cost to the club or its salary cap.

So, with that in mind, if Eric Grothe and Luke Burt want to stay at a club that looks as likely as any to win the 2010 NRL Premiership AND they have contracts in place, do any of you REALLY believe they're going to Japan or Cronulla???
  • Yes, but in the case of someone like Eric Grothe, at 29 the clock is ticking on any last chance to bag a long term contract - 3 or 4 years.

A lot of footballers blow most of their early career earnings and then, when they start earning a little more, get financial advisors who forget that they won't be on their football income for very long and tell them to invest in everything going around. Thus the need for cash flow. I think if Grothe had received an offer from Jap rugby he would have gone.
