Anthony Watmough's injury update

There was a news article back on March 25, stating that the insurance claim for Watmough's injury was submitted. It was expected to take 6 to 12 weeks to process. Given that 6 weeks has now passed, does anybody know if this is still in progress or was rejected/denied?Apparently Matty Johns has stated that if the Eels convince Watmough to retire, it won't save the Eels cap drama as only half his money will be counted as we have already paid him half. I thought if a player retires you had to pay him the whole amount of the contract? Maybe it depends on the timing and what the contract was?So nobody in the media seems to be considering Watmough's insurance claim. Wasn't it the club's hope that this would absolve us from the full amount of his contract? However it appears we may not know the answer to that for another 6 weeks (assuming claim was actually submitted when stated and that it hasn't been already rejected).

  • David Riccio in todays Tele....

But it’s The Daily Telegraph’s understanding that Watmough’s medical documents will be presented to the NRL and Bloomfield on Wednesday.

The process of seeking salary cap exemptions is completely independent to the current insurance claim Watmough has already submitted.

The doctor’s notes will then be presented to NRL salary cap auditor Jamie L’Oste Brown, who will determine how much — if any at all — of Watmough’s $750,000 salary and pay, of which can be backdated to the date of the injury occurring last February, will be removed from the Eels salary cap.

    • Thanks Bart
    • The way it is going the NRL will not rubber stamp and none of it will be taking off the cap
  • We as a club wont get used to it we suck as a club put a good side together and some cunt dopes us in to the NRL we are cheating and along they come to fuck up the ass how can the bronco and cowboys and bulldogs get away with it we need who ever doing there books come along and do how because we don't know how

    • I could not of said it better myself!
    • Ha ha Stevo that was funny
  • The more I think about it the more I think its gonna happen.

What happens come next Friday if we aren't under the cap....Souths will be fuming the NRL have to make it happen and think if its close enough it will be approved to appease Souths & other clubs supporters.

  • Yeah reckon it will be very close

  • Yes he received half from Us but he needs to make a living It will be backdated to when the injury occurred and his whole salary will come off the cap...

He hasn't played for us at all in the 2016 season due to the injury in pre season.....

What did they want us to do not pay him while he was waiting on his insurance claim.....

  • It wont matter how much we have paid him...we will have to pay out is entire contract, then parra can claim it on insurance. If the insurance company doesn't accept it, its on parra not on the cap.

Its then up to the NRL salary cap auditor to determine how much comes off our cap, which can be backdated

"Pass, Matt Burton would be a step backwards. Not a match-winner and too slow / immobile."

"De Belin will do a lot of the clean up work, the 3rd man in for our defence. Hopgood is now not alone in that area. He will not be flashy but he will definately do his job."
