ANTHONY MITCHELL - ITS TIME!

Anthony has been in the Eels system long enough, i feel it is time for Daniel Anderson to give this talented Dummy half an opportunity in the first half of the season. This guy is 85kg,young and  keen as, he would perfect as a Kingston type player off the bench.I just don't see KK as a suitable impact dummy half......please Daniel give Anthony Mitchell a go as soon as possible.

  • An advantage of giving Mitchell a start off the bench would be to see how his differing style of play impacts on those around him. He's trained with the first grade squad before and from what I've seen of him in the NYC, is a busy hooker in the mould of a PJ Marsh/Nathan Fien.

I don't see him being as solid in defence as Matt Keating, but he deserves his chance I would have thought sooner rather than later.
  • Spot on!
  • Anthony had his opportunity to stand-up in the trials and didn't,.

It will take him time to adjust to senior football and he has to start dominating at Wentworthville level before he is considered for NRL level. How about we let our current team settle in the season, before we start pressing any panic buttons.
    • Phil, you were the one who gave a bit of a spray to a few players in your post match wash up. Gentle musing about one of our players who might make the step up to NRL this season is far from 'pushing panic button'!

I know the likes of parradise's negative rantings against the team have worn thin and put several folks on edge, but seriously, I think maybe you're misdirecting your frustration in this thread!
      • There is a difference between calling on some of our players to do better and suggesting other players should be called in.

I didn't mean for that to sound like me being a cranky old bastard but it's a pet hate of mine for people to call up Wenty or NYC players who aren't even dominating at that level. I didn't see Mitchell's games either in the trials but people on this board whose opinions I trust did, and report he was relatively quiet.

Mitchell looked like being the next big thing in SG Ball and then stepped up to NYC, had a quiet year as he got used to playign with the older boys then started to shine against last year. I think he's likely to need this year playing for Wenty to get himself up to NRL level.

That said, we'll only need a couple of injuries and he could very well debut this year and I hope he's ready for it but I guess what I'm saying is we don't need to push him.
    • I didn't see the trials.
      Was he that bad?
No panic buttons i just remember 2001 we had Brad Drew/P.J Marsh combo and last years combo of M.keating/Kingston working well togeather almost winning a a premiership.........I am hoping M.Keating will become an effective 80 minute hooker, only time will tell.
      • Wow my first blog on the 1 EYED site, anyway i didn't think i would get that scrutinised on my positive comments over a promising young player. The bottom line is i hope the Eels kill it on Sunday and everyone has a right to an opinion.
        • Rod, its better to have your blog scrutinised then go unnoticed :-) Like I said I can see where you're going with it and if Mitchell starts killing it in Wenty week-in, week-out he might have a case to build. I just disagree with the fact as to whether "it's time" for him now.

But that's just my opinion. You may very well be right, and I may be full of crap. I have been known to get it wrong - just ask those who have jousted with me over the merits of Weller and Taulima :-) So keep blogging, all debate is good debate (as long as its actually about the footy).
          • No worries mate......i didn't look at it in that way.

It is the first time i have said anything on this site.....it becomes a bit lonely up this way there is way to many QLD supporters so yes you are correct i will keep it going it was fun.

            Thanks
      • As someone who did see the Roosters trial, it's not that he was bad, it was that he didn't make the impact I would have thought to be required in order to step up to first grade just yet. It's probably tempting to throw him in there even at this early stage of his career, especially if you consider how Morts stepped up, but I think its too much to have that many relatively inexperienced guys in your 1,6,7,9 spine.
