Andrew Davey retires - official

Parramatta Eels forward Andrew Davey has today announced his retirement from the NRL following advice from medical experts.

Andrew arrived at the Eels from Mackay, Queensland in 2019 and made his NRL debut in 2020. He then played for Manly Sea Eagles and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs before returning to the Eels midway through the 2023 season.

“For a battler from Central Queensland who wasn’t supposed to play one game of NRL, this career has plenty for me to be proud of. It may not be the ending I would have liked, but truth is, I lived my fairytale for five years.

“I’d like to thank the Parramatta Eels admin staff, the medical team and all coaches at the club, the genuine care and support I received throughout this process is greatly appreciated and I couldn’t ask for better treatment in making this decision.

“I’m extremely grateful to have such supportive family and friends and I’m also proud of the lifelong friendships I made during my time in the NRL,” said Andrew.

Andrew left his home and successful carpentry business in Queensland to pursue a career in the NRL with Parramatta.

Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football Mark O’Neill said “Andrew has always had a great work ethic, his desire and drive to make it in the NRL is admirable. He has set himself up for success outside of football and we wish him all the best for his future.”

  • James Graham's spray must of really affected him .

    • Lol

      • Can't be a coincidence that this guy gets humiliated by James Graham then announces his retirement .

  • Good luck to him he had a go I can't say he will be missed was a strange mid season  signing

  • takes our top 30 down to 26 players for next year locked in. 25 if the club doesnt renew Ogdens contract. in terms of our top 17 I would still like to see 2 more signings either a utility or hooker to take lussicks spot. AND a winger. as it is looking now I have this as our top 17.

    position name
    1 Clint Gutherson
    2 Maika Sivo
    3 Morgan Harper*
    4 Will Penisini
    5 Bailey Simonsson
    6 Dylan Brown
    7 Mitchell Moses
    8 Junior Paulo
    9 Joey Lussick
    10 Reagan Campbell-Gillard
    11 Shaun Lane
    12 Bryce Cartwright
    13 J’maine Hopgood
    14 Joe Ofahengaue
    15 Kelma Tuilagi*
    16 Ryan Matterson
    17 Wiremu Greig

    • Club has already indicated they are not renewing Ogden. Plus have to put Zac Cini into that squad to 27, his deal goes into a top 30 spot for 2024.

So three spots left, i think that should indicate there will be at least one more signing, unless we just sign juniors. Luca Moretti is one who should be extended soon too.

      • Well that means at least 2 wasted spots in the top 30.

      • I think Cini went top 30 in 2025? not 100% though

        • 2024 Jed, he's off contract 2024.

Had Cini featured in 2023 I would have felt better, though BA a few times opted for others. That tells you BA doesn't trust him.

      • The Ogden one was just on a rumour page, club did not confirm that. And I don't know where you are getting the cini information. If you use the nrl official team top 30 page cini is still on development contract.
