Was just writing a blog on this. It's going to be challenging for the club to retain him.
The only way I see us retaining him (outside of the NRL helping to retain him) is by upping his contract over the three years remaining. Do people think it would be worth bumping him up to $500k over the rest of the three years on his contract, which then means someone has to come in with a million dollar plus offer over three years.
Or do we just let it ride, and see if the NRL helps out at the end of his contract.
To further complicate issues, I'm pretty sure the last year is actually an option in his favour.
* I do think this is just more media crap to destabilize the club. But if not...
Lets see if Mr Greenburg's inherited "war chest" will be spent on retaining a super star of the game before he actually switches codes and is lost to the game, which hasn't been done to date.
But being the Eels, our ongoing salary cap problems, blah, blah, blah.... "Sorry we cant help you"
If only Semi played for the untouchable Dogs, Bronco's Roosters & co, an open cheque arrives on your desk Monday.
Semi isnt just a player with us, he is a drawcard and he is a top role model off the field as well.
Parra have looked after him so far in regards to letting him go back to Fiji in the off season and then again just after the Cyclone.
I think Semi deserves to have his contract upgraded at the expense of someone like John Folau. Semi is one of the players the crowds come for and his results speak for themselves.
Upgrade his contract now for another 3 years.
A couple of questions.
1. Is it true? Because we all know the lurker is a dribbler.
2. Is this just another rumour getting circulated to keep us jumping at shadows?
I'd be inclined to upgrade his contract anyway because we did get him at a bargain price. His manager must be a grade A dope.
I think he needs to have his contract upgraded, actually he is my preference for the coterie. Having said that, anyone or for that matter no one could be outside Jennings and it wouldn't make much difference as Semi hasn't seen the ball yet this year (I know it's only been 2 rounds).
Recent proceedings with higher profile players means contracts don't matter if the feelings mutual.
What if Semi asks for a release and parra doesn't give it to him?
Don't think it's much of a scoop, one would expect everyone rugby related would be interested in luring Semi given his roots and then how well he has adapted to League.
It's a hard one because he is in our top 3 players imo. Im gonna pass though. A good team always has their cap spent on the spine and one of either a prop or lock that leads the way. It sucks but it is true.
"Coryn, Gus is great. Respect. But facts before bias. The spine matters. He's still sorting the spine after 5yrs or so. Ours is more settled after only a year or so without sugar daddies & Gus' 50yrs of networks.
"Not in this case the stepping stone is perfect for them not us why would we be paying market value for that.Demand doesn't fall into this conversation because we've basically given them what they want.
We've just lost an international calibre half…"

Semi is not off contract
Rubbish

Semi is contracted until the end of 2018, so it's a total non issue.
