Alvaro return to the centres

my mate used to play junior footy with alvaro and he was a fantastic centre. He has great lateral foot movement and would cause opposition defences some real headaches with his size. He would attract defenders and would solve our centre problem. Thoughts??

  • Wow!
  • How was his defence out wide with all that space, having to protect the half on his inside while also marking his opposing centre AND often the fullback as well?

This is why you see so few giant centres these days. Only the freaks like Inglis (who is still much skinnier and quicker than Alvaro) are able to defend well out wide.

But I think you'll find most NRL forwards played in the backs as kids, because even the slowest NRL players are faster than normal people.

  • Interesting Sex,

Ive never entertained the thought, i doubt it would solve our centre problems but id be interested to see how he went if ever thrown in due to injury, im a fan of big strong centres, interesting thoughts Sex.

  • His go forward in the middle is great, why fix something that aint broke?
  • Great idea!!! Lets put an up and coming front rower in the centres
  • Omfg I don't know what is wrong with people on this site the blogs that get posted are pathetic
  • Just a thought it wouldn't do any harm trying stuff in the preseason especially if there are a few hidden centres out there in the forward pack!
  • This could be one of the worst comments I have read. I played junior footy with Mick Vella who was 2 years below me and played on the wing because he couldn't play. Poor Mick was only 16, please don't put anyone in the same boat in junior levels.
  • When did your mate play footy with him? My young bloke played in a rep team with him at 14 and he was an out and out prop forward. Can't say I'd ever see him at centre either back then or now.
  • This sounds like when we tried to move Ray Higgs to the centers in the early 70s. Just turned to custard
