Firstly I'd like to say that the opening ceremony and war dance were intense from both teams. All due respect to the Elder delivering the Welcome but jee he bought the intensity down a tad...
You can clearly see the cultural heritage gap between the sides, NZ has Māori culture embed into the education curriculum, unlike Oz.
I feel the Indigenous fella's should be learning culture all year through NRL programs led by our own Dean Widders. Not just a week of culture beforehand, they should be immersed all year round.
In shitty conditions both teams played at high tempo, especially the form front rower J. Tapine - he was immense. Rapana proved yet again that he is a dog shot hero and I'd love to have Sloan at the back for Parra.
Thoughts on the Shaq Mitchell?
Wirremu - 20min - 60'm run carries. Solid effort from this young one, he will be very very good off the bench, I bet Kaufusi and Maka be a little nervous.
looking forward to Ofahiki in the Trials too.
Dare to name a trail team for Parra...?
The Womens match was brilliant, slower but a great game. The Props for both teams belted each other hard, and played tuff all night. I just love the way they hammer each other, get up , fix the ponytail and go again. Some seriously talented women in both sides which should have the Eels Women looking close to a Flag. Special mention for Cherington in a league of her own.
Well I'm not Sixties or Snake but that is my view on last night.
Have a good Sunday ya'all

this is one of the best Welcome...
I agree, I would love to see more Indigenous Studies taught in school. Every public school should be bringing in elders to teach craft, art, story time to really bridge that understanding of cultures.
I love seeing last nights match, and they played some great footy too. I think we'll see this grow into something much greater than just a footy game.
Clintorian hi mate, do you realise that Aboriginal studies is linked across the entire curriculum now? Yes elders etc are not brought into every school but some would be.
My query would be, what would you like to see taken out to accommodate this?
Theres been plenty of bridging occurring in the schools i have worked at and led, TBH it has been overkill. Each govt adds or deletes as it needs from the curriculum.
This great to hear Mitch, appreciate the insight. I only get to hear little bits from my son's school but they are doing much better than what I had growing up. Bringing in the elders would be hard, but I'm sure there could be systems created.
I would replace scripture with Indigenous Studies in all public schools. Religion could be taught in high school, but you learn about all religions. I loathe that it's taught to our children in public school. Keep that shit out of our public schools.
Good game. Ra-peanut finally got penalized for a shoulder charge.
Rapana has turned into one of the biggest grubs in the game. Reminds me of Michael Hancock, the Brisbane winger from the 90s
Intensity was very high. You could clearly see that winning meant alot to each side. I enjoyed it more than I expected.
Ok I'll be the pariah - I love the haka and the opposing hakas between the Pacific Islanders in the World Cup was magnificent.
Last nights 'hakas - war dances ' call it what you will went on forever.
I thought I was watching the opening Ceremony for the Commonwealth Games !
I may be wrong but I think the total was about 20 minutes?
Whenever the All Blacks do their haka, it's short sharp and magnificent. I just felt due to the length, it seemed to lose a lot of the magic.
I fully understand the cultural significance of the hakas and do not seek to dismiss this.
I thought the football was great. How big is Wiremu ?? He's a bloody tank!
Sloan is going to be one of the best footballers around. Silky smooth.
When Gutho's manager was trashing the club in the press trying to get a better deal, we should have thrown the kitchen sink at Sloan. He's an absolute gun!!
Yes, i heard the club did that mutts, but his management told the club that he didn't want to learn his trade under a bush coach
