All I want now is Kieran Foran

I've said this any number of times of this site and in conversations when asked the question: "If you could choose one player in the NRl who would it be".

I've said Kieran Foran every single time.

Now, my desire to get Foran to this club just intensified a hundred fold, because surely he must now be a very real possibility.

No, it doesn't solve next year's issue but what I'm sure it will allow us to do, is instead of back-ending Watmough's contract, we'll be able to front-end it. And that will give us an all-mighty amount of money to spend for 2016.

Kieran Foran is a player we can actually build a club around. He's a fabulous player and even more so, he's just the consumate Rugby League professional. He plays every game at a hundred percent and he'll set the bar for the rest of the team to follow. We could offer him a million per season and the captaincy and no team could get near our offer.

As much as I wanted Foran, it always seemed while we had Hayne on our books, Manly would always be able to match our offer. That's no longer the case.

As much as I love Jarryd Hayne as a player, I've always said that you need to start with your halves and work from there. We've not been able to do that because carrying Hayne has dictated both of our style of play and had a big impact on our recruitment. Foran as a half, as a guy moving into his mid-twenties and the prime of his career and as a leader, he ticks every box.

So let's not go blow what money we have on players who fill a gap for a year. The goal is for this club to be a successful, consistent top four side and to me Kieran Foran is the best option to take us there.

  • P.S.  Not many people know that Kieran's father is also a very successful executive - he's currently the CEO of Walmart US and those type of connections can be very useful as we attempt to build up the Premiership Club and the quality of partners/supporters we involve with the club. All upside!

  • Hayne was a very good player but was never the one player panacea the 3p acolytes attempted to make him - we surrounded him with turkey's and he never soared.....

This is a good situation and like Phil, I see the positives - in particular the fact that the crabs only supporter has gone - can I get a woop woop??

Build a squad with balance brad - I believe in you!
    • Yep Schueb balance is the way to go but all and sundry want to wait for Hayne to come back in 2016.

IMO he made his choice and has moved on, therefore we should too. We have failed for far too long and all this waiting does is continue the failures of our past.

  • Well bloody peg the chequebook at him , hard !!!! No waiting for dreamers to return .
  • A spine of Folau, Foran, Hayne, and Peats would look nice. Two of those players could have their money subsidised by the NRL too, make for a much better, more balanced squad.

This is all a ploy by the Eels so that we can go all out for the 2016 premiership. "The year without Hayne" will be studied by History classes in 50 years time.

    • Hahha great conspiracy ham
    • It's hardly quite obvious but it is a damn fine conspiracy of hope. Like a little ray of sunshine when just fell in a vat of sh*t.
  • We need to keep this money in a war chest for 2016 and use it on a big name half, Forans a good player but without somebody like DCE i suspect he wont give the value your expecting Phil.

He's no game breaker mate, and whilst hes quality, im really not sure how he would go here.

But saying that i'd be happy with his signing.

  • Absolutely agree. Foran must be #1 priority. Next year basically a write off but 16 with Foran( no origin period), Hoppa at FB, our developing young forward pack, Peats and then fill in the gaps and find any half with a heartbeat that can tackle to replace Sandow and we are a force!
  • Seriously? Foran allows DCE to look good.

If we can share Choc and Foran, I'm happy to call it even after Manly's decade or so of raiding our junior talent.
