Alex Johnston wants out should we target him?

Rumors are that Wayne isn’t letting him play fullback and wants to put him on left wing. I would most definitely prefer ya chasing Johnston over R. Jennings. Johnston has the speed & footwork to be a great fullback. While many people may point out he’s just a more polished Bevan French I think Johnston offers more & would provide that final spark to give us a great backline. Only other clubs who I think would have the money to go for him & need a fullback is Bulldogs or Storm. And unless Johnston wants to move down to Melbourne he can stay in Sydney with us or Canterbury. With the recent cap issues Bulldogs had I’m not sure if they’d have the money to sign him. His market value would be between 400-600k. Still only young so his best footy is still to come. Would give us a great backline of

1. Johnston

2. G. Jennings

3. Gutherson

4. M. Jennings

5. Ferguson

  • It’s been an ongoing issue, but Wayne Bennett has an uncanny habit of convincing players that his way us ultimately the best way. So whilst I’d love him, I doubt he’s going anywhere.

  • I’m a huge Johnston fan. Blinding pace and great try scoring instincts. However before last year I thought Bevan French was on his way to be being just as good if not better. French was obviously  very disappointing last year but perhaps it was second year syndrome and we will see a resurgence. If French is going to be in the backline I want to see big players around him. I’d like to see how Sivo goes given a decent crack.

  • Trent haven’t you done this same blog previously???

    • I havent posted a blog in about a month & ive never done one about Alex Johnston.

  • eels will offer 350k for him, sharks will come along affer 500k or what ever, same story as always, eels club lack vision in talent

  • Gutherson is a better fullback.  If we didn't upgrade our juniors we would only look at a hooker, frontrower or centre.

    • Totally agree. Not what the Eels need so why spend the money?

The Eels need to make smart moves going forward and invest in what is needed, not just simply what is available at the time.
