Ah, phooey: Moimoi takes tough call on chin

SOURCE: SMH PARRAMATTA prop Fuifui Moimoi refused to complain about the crucial call against him last night when he was penalised for holding on to the leg of Storm fullback Billy Slater. Moimoi had decked the dangerous Slater, hitting him around the knees and sliding down but as Slater leapt to his feet to play the ball, Moimoi still had his arm around Slater's ankle and the ball spilled free. It was the classic 50-50 call: a scrum for Parramatta, who were trailing by six points and coming home with a wet sail and southerly buster, or a penalty for Melbourne who were hanging on like grim death?... Parramatta chairman Roy Spagnolo was still fuming after the match, describing it as one of the major turning points in the game. ''Big call,'' he said. ''He still had his ankle. They held us down all night.'' FULL STORY: http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/lhqnews/moimoi-takes-tough-call-on-chin/2009/10/04/1254590913472.html

  • 50/50 call? A bit too generous there Phil. Considering Turner was called held and then release and then allowed to run another 15m in the first half, made the call on Fui completely wrong. Slater was tackled and tried to play the ball too quick and dropped the ball cold. There was no call of release so it was no way 50/50.

Some of the decisions in that game were woeful. That is why I hate Melbourne, they always gets the rub of the green, are allowed to lay in the ruck, are the biggest cheats in the game and get looked after by the game.

I was at Melb v Broncos semi last year and the Broncos were way on top. Melb started their grapples, chicken wings etc and it took a while for the refs to stop it. Broncos got sh*tty, refs lost control of the game and then for the last 20mins Melb were always offside and then won.

Also look at the 07 prelim when they deliberately injured Cayless and the 50/50 video ref calls. I guarantee if it had of been Melb diving over in the corner, the big TRY would have come up on the screen.
    • That was from SMH mate, I thought it was a disgraceful call..
      • Sorry mate, I didn't read it properly. Something to do with being gutted.
  • Slightly different take on the penalty!!

PARRAMATTA fans and players were last night fuming over the late penalty that cost them any chance of completing a fairytale comeback.

In a dramatic aftermath to the Storm title victory, Daniel Mortimer described Tony Archer's decision to penalise Fuifui Moimoi late in the game as "dodgy''.

And the Eels prop was adamant he did nothing wrong.

  • 2 refs out there, and still can't get crucial calls right... maybe a need for 3 refs out on the field??? Slater knew he dropped that ball cold, you could see his face, what a relief he didnt pay for it.
  • It was a very poor call and unfortunate what it resulted in, but really the refs can't be smashed too much. We came out well on top of the penalty count, and there were other decisions that we were very lucky with ... Ben Smith taking out Inglis in the 1st half for instance. The field goal smashed our comeback but we we had plenty of opportunties before that not to be in that position.
  • Ahhh, boys, now you see what I meant when I was talking about refs in my previous posts. In all fairness Melbourne did play better and deserved the win BUT when that penalty was given all hopes of the revival were snuffed. Yes it was a shitty penalty and it wasn't the only one, but dropped balls, uncontested bombs and bad passes were what killed us. That and the Storms D which is the toughest in the competition.
And I'm glad Jarryd didn't make a break, 'cause now he knows that even great talent and God doesn't guarantee a good game.
