Against The Odds - a Footy Blog

Parra vs Dragons. What a challenge! The odds are stacked.Consider:* first 3 dummy half choices gone* fullback gone* halves reshuffled, therefore spine messed up.* Ma'u and Watmough gone* Taka still on one leg* coach trying to sort the Foran contract* media attacking the club, the coach, basically everyone.Has there ever been a more challenging preparation for the team in recent times?Should this team win, regardless of how, it will go down as one of their greatest club round victories.if Parra can score in excess of 20 points the Dragons may not have the points in them. This, of course is stating the obvious. They are a team that builds their matches around a great defensive structure and attitude. I believe that we can defensively handle their attack. Can we challenge their defence with so many significant changes to our team?Let's get behind our team! Go you Eels!

  • This is the game to stand up Sixties, i mentioned it in my blog about needing a siege mentality. The players have seemed quite annoyed and fired up in their recent interviews. I honestly believe we are in for a good old bash fest come Saturday, its going to be a cracking game, you can smell it in the air.

  • Yes. Eels 26-14.
  • We're on a two game winning streak against the Saints at home. How I remember Round 10 last year so clearly. 36-0 capitulation. They have a similar team to that team this year I think. I think that was Benji Marshall's Dragons debut and Steve Price's last game.

  • Like all games (nearly all) we will compete. The floggings have stopped.

I reckon we will go close.

  • I believe the spine structure for this game is the best we've had in recent history. Defensively Robinson doesn't offer much out the back, his positional play needs some serious work and Normans positional play in the games I've seen him play fullback over at the broncos is a big improvement.

Our attacking structures wont change much. If I was coach I'd have Sandow and Norman alternate positions in attack and defence. Sandow in the halves for Defence, and fullback for attack and vice versa for Norman. All Kelly will be doing is sticking to the game plan. Solid kicks and low risk plays.

I am looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. It'll be tough but I genuinely believe that we can get away with a solid 12 point win barring injury.

    • I like your thoughts about Norman and Sandow. I'd love to be at training watching what's planned!
    • No way Sandow should be FB
Fullback should run more than a half in order to back up in potential support
Sandow does not have the fitness to run that much
  • The players need to rally for the coach. BA has been mercilessly attacked by the media and I really hope this has riled the players and they show how much they want to play for him by going out there and bashing the Dragons.

  • wow...

  • I agree with Wes that Sandow might move to fullback in attack.

Still, many of our defensive issues sed from bing bad at resetting our line or just not enough line speed to get set properly. With all the changes, I fear we will be a basket case in defense. Time will tell
