ABOUT OUR BACKLINE...

... look I'm no league tactical genius but does our backline simply stand too flat and not deep enough? Take last night, no one was running onto the ball and because we didn't stand deep enough the Tigers' defence was straight up on us. The West Tigers backs stand so deep (it's like on fashioned rugby union backline) which allows them to sprint on to the ball and gives them a lot more time before the defence moves up. I'm sure there's advantages in both, but the Tigers' style definitely won the day last night.

  • Jarryd haynes urgency to get to kicks is absolute shithouse i reckon he could of ran around the ref but ran into him on purpose cause he knew he couldnt be fucked to cover it up.
  • Mate from what I recalled from last nights match that we were on the back foot from the word go!!!

We had mininal possession and when we did have the ball the players looked exhausted, unmotivated and unorganised we cannot keep on bagging our backs if our forwards are not going to get back in the middle and match it with their opposition!!!!!!

Until our forwards are back dominating and some organisation from dumy half we are going no where fast!!!
  • Maybe there's the answer - we're playing backs in our forward pack. Mateo and Smith are traditionally backs after all. Could they move back into the backline for the sake of Robson and Reddy and we bring some new forwards in? Pele, Horo etc?
    • Now why on earth would you drop Reddy, one of our best consistently, to try untested forwards!

Whatever the problem at the moment, the solution is not a dramatic team shuffle. It not only interrupts a team which is trying to gel, but if the forwards called up aren't ready it can have a huge impact on their future careers.
      • Very true, Ms Tinkerbell... but Hayne, Burt/Inu, Smith, Tahu, Grothe, Mateo, Mortimer would be an awesome backline not to mention the size. Move KK to hooker. I guess the tone of many of the blogs is we're getting "touched up" in the forwards. We need to bring in a bit more size.
        • I understand the point and it is true - until we dominate the forwards, our backs can't show how good they are.

I still think the loss of Shack was huge and I am hoping the forwards will step up. Timmy Mannah did a great job last night. One of the younger guys might get a go this weekend if Poore remains injured, but I am still wary of any big reshuffles! :-)
          • But we were totally crap last year until Hayne went to fullback, Mateo went into the pack and Finch got the arse etc. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with a reshuffle. As the old adage goes - you do the same thing, you get the same results! And there's nothing wrong with new blood. Did you know who Daniel Mortimer was this time last year?
            • There's a kittle more to Finch's story than meets the eye.

I am just wary of reshuffle for the sake of reshuffle. I do recognize that sometimes it really is necessary. I do trust Ando though, in my eyes he is yet to really let us down.

As I said, if Poore is injured it might give one of out younger guys a shot.
              • Tell me what the Finch story is? I'm fascinated. Or how about this for heresy, Cayless "retires" and we buy a couple of forwards from UK Super League....

I'm not saying that is OK but surely a punch in the face is at a minimum just as bad but in my opinion a lot worst.
