Lets say management go to Gutherson and tell him Parra are going to spend $9.6 million on players this year. Then ask Clint how much he wants, but keep in mind we have to contract 29 other players.
So basically you can have as much as you like and with the left overs we'll contract a team around you. If you decide you want most of it we'll contract a team of nuffies. Or you take a little and we get you a team of internationals. ??????

You would spend more trying to pouch the internationals. When you go seeking a pay rise do you worry about the company and employees you have to work with. It's life now to be greedy, especially at his age. If the club was smart enough they would have TPA deals lining up out the door.
As if his manager cares about Parramatta or what players play around his client. It's all about the cash.
This is where things get cloudy for me because in principle this could be done however the NRL I believe ultimately decide the base value of a player and that must be met. At least I think it works this way since the whole Gasnier debacle.
In all honesty this is a good way to approach it. In restaurants that adopt a “pay what you think it’s worth”” model, they tend to do better than simply setting prices.
The issue is player managers are involved, and will always push for the maximum.
