When the NRL took the 12 points off us, along with the 2nd penalty of removing the for & against from the team, they ensured along with some pea blowers that we would not play in the finals. For them & many we were losers, we assembled an illegal team, despite having to let several players go, & then another departed for ports unknown & frankly I don't care.

We finished the season in 3rd last on 18 points, add the 12 to that we would have been in 8th spot therefore playing next weekend against, I understand the cows..  Had a certain player not had a dumb night out, & ended up being suspended for 8 games, I believe we could have won at least 2 or 3 of the games we lost, which makes it all the harder to take.

However, despite all the negatives I take the season as a positive one as the first real step to what might have been, & now launches us into another era of being one of, if not the best teams & club in the NRL.

With the deducted points & for & against, taken into account the following is where I see the team this year.

For      Against        +/-           Points

606        577             +29         30

That would be our worst case scenario.    Congrats to the team & coaching staff for a succesfull season, no mater what others think.

For those leaving the eels, for other pastures, be they greener or otherwise, thanks for your contributions.

Bring on 2017

  • Good blog mate. One has to believe that had we not lost the points then it would have been possible top 4 as we would have had something to play for in those close games
    • Troy, 2 extra wins would have given as a finish on 34 points, in 6th spot, 3 on 36 at 4th

  • As Eels fans who have endured this year from hell it's great to know that we can take heart from the magnificent performance the team put on this year despite everything that was going against that. The players and coaching staff should be immensely proud of what they have achieved. They should also know that the fans recognise this and are looking forward to a very good season next year. I can't wait!
  • Sadly when people read about this season in 20 years they will assume we assembled a team comprising completely of representative players, this as you all know (and most fans from other clubs admit) was not the case.
  • I think if we had made the 8 we would have had a better chance than both the Sharks and Dogs. I feel there are some sides glad we missed out. Bring on 2017
