A Real Test For Sharp

People here know my feelings about Steve Sharp and our board. I've been an unabashed supporter and became quite political in my blogs around the last election, something I don't normally like to do. I believed in stability and the people leading our club.I'm not about to jump off my support, but I need to make something very clear. This story regarding In the SMH regarding BAs contract has some legs. I'm one of the biggest critics of this particular journalist but unfortunately he appears to have some facts. There are comments from members on the other blog which are also indicative of what has gone down. These comments have come from some of the most loyal supporters of our board. These are people that you rarely see being critical of Sharp. Therefore, I'd like to go on the record in calling for Steve Sharp to sort this out ASAP.Steve, there are many supporters who believe in the direction that Brad Arthur is taking with this playing group. We acknowledge the fact that you brought him to this club. You need to acknowledge that he has a supporter base and a playing group that believe in him. To not demonstrate the leadership needed to resolve this issue would be a disaster for our club and quite frankly, it needs to be sorted immediately. This is your test.

  • Well written mate, he better fix this. We don't want an 8th coach (I think) in 10 years + BA is really taking the Eels in the direction the fans want.

  • If Sharp can knock this on the head quickly AND communicate to the members that it's been done, then I can move on. To let it fester would be a real bad look.
  • Sharp could end this today by sorting it out but he won't he is a very dumb man. As long as this clown is in charge it will be drama after drama it just never ends. This should of never made the papers its an easy fix. Remember never to vote this sap in power again.
    • You have to vote for someone. Provide a better alternative and votes may change. He was definitely IMO the best candidate at the time.

    • Spot on. Dumber than a bag of hammers that carnt.
  • What needs to be "knocked on the head" more readily is the fact that a lot of people involved with the club seem to think leaking to some grubs in the media is the most successful way to get the wheels turning.

This is bad. If Sharp "knocks this on the head" now he's conceding that the squeaky wheel gets the oil, that those who scream the loudest will get the attention. We've got to stop letting situations escalate to the media, we've got to ensure we have processes that are more efficient than a grubby avenue like this. Otherwise everyone involved in the club will start threatening leaks to get things moving on issues they care about.

This is a test, but I hope the answer isn't to kneejerk. To me the answer is to sort this behind closed doors and then not fan the flames. Don't respond. Give no air to the initial leak/rumour. Sort it behind closed doors and keep it there. Otherwise Sharp is proving that he will respond to threats from the media.

    • The Captain, writing this caused me no end of pain. In most instances I would agree with you. To that end I have given little credence to virtually all of the bad news media stories surrounding the club and trusted matters to be resolved. In fact I have written off many of the articles as being leaked by disruptive influences around the club and still believe that to be true.
For me to cast this news in a different light is personally agonising.
This is different. It cannot be allowed to fester. It's not a knee jerk reaction if it is essential that it is resolved.
As a loyal fan, loyal to both my team and to Sharp, I'm looking to Steve to fix it.
      It needs to be done.
  • Agreed sixties, we do not need any Uncle Festers.

    • That's funny , hate uncle festers lol
  • Sixties, it is a bad look regardless of how quickly it gets resolved. The radio news I listened to this morning ran this story in length and there was no mention of the Robbie Farah situation. This weeks instalment about the basket case eels. These are such basic matters that should never get to this stage, but its one after the other and shows an appalling lack of attention to detail by management.

I agree that Sharp does need to communicate to members about this.

"I think Braith respects Ryles as a coach and what he's doing at Parra and obviously believes Lomax did the wrong thing, listened to poor advice and brought this all upon himself and did the wrong thing to Parra"
