A lateral thinking selection issue

I honestly believe that if we had Gutherson at half and Doorey in the centres with Simonsson at fullback and Russell on Dunster’s wing, we would beat the Raiders this weekend.

Now I understand the rhetoric of best players out of position but it is much as commonsense as is was not by playing Moses fullback instead of Guth for the 10 minutes last week.

You did not have to be Einstein to figure the Titans attack was going to go down the left with Foran, Fafita and Kahn Pierra. So what do we do but put our best player into the position that Simonsson could have played comfortably.

The fact is we lost that game in those 10 minutes when that exact combination of Koran, Fafita and Pierra buried us. This was poor preparation from the coaching staff and showed a lack of lateral thinking.

Now some will say that I am being negative with JA at half, but it is not, I still give us some chance but I would be very confidant with Guth at half, the more and more I have watched him in recent times shows me he would be now a natural in that position as against say 3/5 years ago he did not have the experience.

I will finish with one final question.....if Gutherson was out this weekend instead of Moses, ie if say Guth was concussed who would play fullback Moses? with JA half? answer those questions and you may start to realise where our team is, compared to the the die for attitude before JA came along.....its nothing to do with nepotism or favourtism...every one can have an opinion......the reality is it does not work when your son is a fringe selection in a professional sporting environment. If JA had spent the past 3 years in reserve grade getting a normal apprenticeship, my guess is we would have no qualms about him playing this weekend.

PS We could have played Hodgson at half this week end?

    • Gutho has a better short kicking game than JA.

        • We can agree to disgree here Mick, I reckon Gutho has a much better kicking game, long and short compared to JA who is so slow from the time that the balls travels from hands to feet. He is up in the line in attack anyway and quiet often starts a move as if he was a half.

Your comment is that they would have attacked Simmonsson side was yes, after all we were a player down, but the undoubted strength of Titans attack came and always would have through the left with those players mentioned.

          • Lol JA has a much better long kicking game than Gutho.

            • Yeah I agree EA, I think JA has a reasonable short and long kicking game. In his limited amount of 1st grade games so far, he's set up multiple tries for himself and others off short kicks.

            • When he was playing for the Chinese team and Micky kicked long to Wong and entered into a kicking duel with Guth.

Don't let the facts spoil the story Mick..... I have no doubt that Guth could kick longer than JA by simply knowing JA's long kicking game is shit......now that kid from Titans can kick long. Moses can kick long, Brown and JA cannot kick long. LOL.

        • It may be one of his strengths (I would say his only strength) but his kicking game isn't better than Guthos

    • Yes they may have attacked Simonson's side but why would you weaken our already shit right side defence espicially when titians two biggest threats (Fifita and Foran) our on that side. You let them defend ur better edge where their attack is also weaker.

      • I agree. BA realised it a bit late, that is, after 2 tries, and bring Hopgood on that side but the damage had already been done

      • I presume you are agreeing with me EA?

  • I mean we could do exactly that play Gutho in the front line in attack and fullback in defense.

Id be more inclined to play to move Matto to 6 and swing DB both sides of the ruck.

BA won't though they'll be playing left and right and the bash up athon will no doubt rare it's head.
