A few quick observations...

Well, I've just flown back from conferencing and being rained downed on mercilessly on the not-so-sunny Gold Coast, and obviously there has been a lot of activity on the site while I've been away.

Firstly, lots of new people joining the site so welcome to all those folk who joined up recently. It only seemed like the other day we broke through 800 members and now we're quickly approaching 900! And especially nice to see some really thoughtful and interesting blogs from some of our new members already as well.

With growth comes come challenges, and we'll need to keep checking back on our standards for moderation and conduct and so forth. So I just wanted to ask people to keep a few things in mind.

1. The most effective way to counter something you don't like is to IGNORE. When you respond to baiting, you send a blog back to the top of the order. And invariably the person you're responding to will respond back and it only perpetuates the madness.

2. Comment first. Before posting a new blog on a topic recently discussed, it's genuinely preferable to add a comment to the existing blog. That way you keep the context of what was discussed previously and we keep interesting topics on top.

3. If someone disagrees with your point of view, don't make it personal and start throwing insults. Let's remember the old saying 'play the ball and not the man'.

4. In regards to moderation. I actually thought Daneel was a bit unfair in cutting down Albert's blog about Feleti. I tend to agree with Bourban Man, in that I didn't see what Albert was saying as being so much an insult as it was basically a somewhat colourful way of describing the state of contract negotiations. In my books too, if you've made positive contributions to the site, as Albert has in delivering us with a number of scoops, you get a bit more leeway. That said, I do thank our mods Daneel, Mary and Slaytanic for keeping an eye on things especially when business takes me AWOL.

5. Agendas against players. You don't have to like every player. We all have our favourites and conversely players that might annoy us. You're free to say so. However, what's boring as hell is to keep bashing a player without adding any additional value to your argument about that player.

I think we're all dying for the action to start! So let's concentrate of talking footy and getting out there to support the boys.

P.S. I'm actually not going to open discussions on this thread because I don't really see a need to have a discussion about any of the above. As you were...
