A feel good SSM thread

It seems Centrelink is throwing the net over homosexuals claiming benefits in light of the SSM vote . We have a Australian lesbian married to an overseas carpet muncher who’s been slogged with a 7k Centrelink bill for claiming single benefits last year and also they’ve advised that any homosexual pensioners claiming single status must now get down and ensure their details are correct and they’re listed as defacto etc .   Centrelinks requirements have been that they’ve recognised SSM relationships since 2009 and your details should be reflective of that , but with fines and repayment requests now being rolled out , it seems the new laws have brought some unwanted attention on same sex couples claiming welfare .

Now couples married abroad are being recognised here , they’re sayng there maybe thousands of couples receiving the wrong payments .

Here comes a big whack of equality .

  • Very interesting.

  • The woman that was slugged $7K was legally claiming the benefits during the time marriage was deemed unrecognized, when the law changed, Centrelink decided she had to backpay what she had received.
    • Nope ..gay partnerships have been a thing at Centrelink since 2009 . So she was claiming illegally, they are just focusing on cracking down now .

I think it’s fabulous as now true equality has been achieved .  All in the LBGTI community should see this as a massive win . They’re being financially scrutinised and penalised by the government like the rest of the bums on welfare .

  • Not much ado here.  She decided previously that she wasn't in what they considered to be a relationship (hint, she actually was) and didn't tell them that she was in a relationship.  Then, she told them that she was in a relationship, and they started treating her like she was in a relationship.

Kinda how the system is designed, and has absolutely nothing to do with SSM or any sort of crack-down.

    • Tom out of curiosity and for a bit of a giggle can you give us all a brief description of a day in the life of Tom Mus?

You seem like the kind of person that had you been in Germany when Adolf was gassing the Jews he would of thrown you in there even if you weren't a Jew .

    • Fong still here and still making $2 insults. I hope your Hungarian mate slipped your sister in law one on the dinner table for all to see. Lol.
  • Like many lefties, I tend to follow the popular movement of the time.  I probably would've made a pretty good Nazi back then.

  • Horo did Santa bring you a cure for your crippled leg ? Or will it be another year of you limping around like a Crippled dog ?

  • You Beauty. You're on the ball again Wiz!

Nothing like a bit of justice.

I was always hopeful that some good might come out of me accepting the "decision of the majority" as a good Aussie citizen even though I voted NO. I hope hope the good Aussie SSM advocates can do the same.
