I don't think it did the Panthers any favours. Nathan won't play again until the eve of finals, and neither will Luai. That ain't ideal prep for the most important games of the year.
The fact we didn't thrash them in the second half is disappointing from an attitude point of view, and our points differential. However, psychologically it's not the worst outcome.
We took our foot off the pedal, so the Panthers won't be seriously taking too much out of the second half. We were well and truly on top when Cleary went off, both on points and momentum. That gives us great confidence.
I'm also glad we didn't put an embarrassing cricket score on them - that would have had the Panthers absolutely burning to avenge it if we meet them again in the finals.
The second half neutralised the sentiments. That is probably good for us.
We were up 12 4 when Cleary got sent. we were already on top. Cleary had the shits and he knew that they were in trouble, and he spat it like the fuckwit that he is.
There's no reason to assume we only won because Cleary went off tonight. We looked the goods.

Penrith were simply starved of the ball the whole first half even if cleary was there it wasnt gona stop the flow of possesion, he wasnt gona stop the mahoney double as they were in the middle of the field, he wasnt gona stop the gutherson try as it was on the other side of the field. The only thing he couldve done is provide a better fight back in the second half, but the game was done and dusted in the first half anyway.
I am glad we won and tbh did not expect the result we saw tonight but i half expected us to aim up from last week. We did that and it was great.

Cleary got what he deserved and can now spend more time at Panthers. In all seriousness that charge should be a grade 3, as he drove him into the ground. This is what amazes me, we had the furore over Alex McKinnon but since then I've seen many tackles that could have gone the same way......that tackle was dreadful in this day and age and if it was N Brown / Junior Pauli they'd be gone for a v long time.
We're never going to know what would have happened but the fact is we were clearly on top and winning by more than a converted try when he was sent off.

Alexander was a bit shell shocked but I thought he was complimentary and fair towards the Eels.
Except he argued that Clearys tackle will be a grade 2, not a grade 3, having seen Lawtons tackle earlier in the year (which wasn't as bad imo) without even trying to distinguish the basis for that opinion. It's nauseating having commentators with clear conflicts of interest.
We completely changed our game in the second half so I wouldn't read too much into that.
Could it be that BA is actually holding his cards and not revealing our actual game till it matters?
We've all complained about BA having zero strategic ability. Maybe for once he's listened?
That would be a dangerous game if he was. It's not like we've got any clever tactical wrinkles up our sleeve. Everyone knows what what everyone else is doing, there aren't any secrets.
